IMPORTANT NOTICE TO ALL B.V.O.F. MEMBERS
Given the cost of greyhound ownership an increasing number of people see Syndicate membership in its many forms as a good way of involving themselves in the sport. This note is not intended to discourage Syndicate membership but rather to offer a note of caution to members with little or no experience in greyhound racing and particularly in dealing with people you do not know well given that there has been recent publicity about one failed Syndicate where members have yet to be reimbursed.
Invitations to subscribe to Syndicates have been posted on the Forum by new, or relatively new, Members and the fact that a Syndicate is proposed or referred to on the Forum does not mean that it has the approval of the Moderators. It is strongly recommend that no commitment is ever made to membership of a Syndicate without verifying the identity of those promoting it.
Clearly it is important to establish the precise terms of the contract and the costs involved. For example, evidence of the purchase price of any syndicated greyhound and checks to satisfy you that it represents fair value. Was a Veterinary Certificate of soundness obtained? How will Training (including travelling) and veterinary costs be charged and apportioned? Is membership guaranteed to be confined to a fixed number of named members? How will prize money be apportioned and what will happen when the greyhound(s) is retired from racing, sold or bred from? What happens in the event of your wishing to withdraw from the Syndicate or it being wound up?
These notes are far from exhaustive and you will doubtless wish to ask many more questions before making any financial commitment."
