Betfred Super League
Salford (10) 32
Tries: Tomkins, Flanagan, Lolohea, Inu Goals: Inu 8
Huddersfield (6) 12
Tries: McIntosh, Russell Goals: Roberts, Russell
Salford Red Devils returned to the play-off spots as they recorded a fourth straight Super League victory against struggling Huddersfield Giants.
Logan Tomkins' try had put Salford in front, but Huddersfield hit back with Darnell McIntosh and Olly Russell going over either side of half-time.
However, tries from Mark Flanagan and Tui Lolohea put the hosts in the clear.
Krisnan Inu, who kicked four conversions and four penalties, then added a late try himself.
Salford had been leapfrogged by Castleford after their 20-6 win over London Broncos on Saturday, but this ultimately comfortable win puts them back into the top five.
They have now scored 152 points in four successive wins since losing to Huddersfield last month.
But they were given a scare early in the second half by the Giants, who were still smarting from their 44-0 humbling at the hands of Leeds last time out.
Russell's try, after he latched on to Louis Senior's kick, gave them hope of a morale-boosting win in their fight against the drop.
But they had no answer to Salford's blitz in the last 15 minutes, which included three tries and exemplary kicking from Inu.
Salford Red Devils head coach Ian Watson:
"It was a real good arm-wrestle and I thought we showed a good mentality, especially in defence.
"Defence wins you games and it's no secret it wins you competitions too. We were much better with the ball in the second half.
"The message in the final quarter was to not lose concentration. Huddersfield came here with a good mentality and they had a real purpose. We have to make sure we outlast the opposition in the remaining games this season.
"The group of players we have here is outstanding and the boys have been a credit to the club all year. We need to nail that play-off spot and see what we can do."
Huddersfield Giants head coach Simon Woolford:
"The effort from the guys was tremendous but we didn't make it easy on ourselves.
"Salford hit the lead late on and the scoreline wasn't a true indication of the game. There was a lot of good stuff in there and it was a tough game.
"It's tough for everyone involved at the club - each week we are playing for our lives. Obviously, it's not ideal (where we are in the league) but we competed and were in it until the 70th minute.
"Salford are a team riding high on confidence and enthusiasm. We knew we had to be somewhere near our best, but with the ball we didn't help ourselves with too many errors."

MATCH REPORT............................
Super League: Salford score eight tries to beat Hull FC 44-22 and go fifth
Betfred Super League
Hull FC (16) 22
Tries: Taylor, Paea, Faraimo, Lane Goals: Sneyd 3
Salford (16) 44
Tries: Sio 2, Mossop 2, Inu 2, Bibby, Hastings Goals: Inu 6
Hull FC missed the chance to go second in Super League as Salford climbed to within two points of them in fifth, keeping their own top-five hopes alive.
Salford got eight of the game's 12 tries, five of them in the second half after it had been 16-16 at the break.
Ken Sio, Lee Mossop and Krisnan Inu all crossed twice, backed by further scores from Jake Bibby and the impressive Wigan-bound Jackson Hastings.
Hull scored though Scott Taylor, Micky Paea, Bureta Faraimo and Jordan Lane.
Bottom club London Broncos beat Catalans in Perpignan
Marc Sneyd kicked three of his conversion attempts as Hull came from behind to briefly lead 16-6 for a short period in the first half.
But Salford got back on level terms, then scored twice more within seven minutes of the restart, Inu going on to land six goals which, on top of his two tries, added up to a 20-point individual haul.
Hull would have climbed above Warrington and Wigan had they won, but instead the three clubs all remain locked on 30 points going into the final three games of the regular league season.
Salford are just two points further back, and will be joined on 28 points by Castleford if the Tigers win at Huddersfield on Sunday.
They are currently on 26, along with Catalans, who were shocked at home by bottom club London Broncos.
Rowley now part of Salford coaching team
Salford have confirmed the appointment of former Leigh and Toronto head coach Paul Rowley as coaching consultant.
Rowley, 44, who stepped down at Toronto after last season's promotion near miss, had been helping head coach Ian Watson at training sessions and has now been appointed in an official capacity.
Watson, recently appointed as an assistant to Great Britain coach Wayne Bennett, has been operating without an assistant since Martin Gleeson left to join Wasps in June.
Hull head coach Lee Radford:
"We could have secured top five but to turn up with that attitude, I can't tell you how disappointed I am with some of the blokes, with a game of that magnitude. They need to understand what tonight was.
"Now we play knockout football. One more individual has an off night and we don't get a second bite at the the cherry. Tonight was that insurance that maybe we could have an off night."
Hull captain Danny Houghton:
"We have put ourselves in a dogfight for the top five. It looks a little bit like knockout football for seven weeks now. We have got to treat every game as a Grand Final or a semi-final."
Salford head coach Ian Watson:
"In large parts we were good. We knew we needed to be strong in those first 30 minutes and that the first 10 minutes of the second half would be important.
"In the second half we had the petrol in the tank. We knew if we got field position we would score points because we are a good attacking team.
"It's worked out really well and we got two points. Catalans have lost and we have pulled away from them.
"Every player was outstanding today with their mental approach to the game. They've given themselves a chance to challenge at the back end of the year."
Hull FC:
Shaul; Naulago, Tuimavave, Griffin, Faraimo; Connor, Sneyd; Taylor, Houghton, Paea, Lane, Westerman, Ellis.
Interchanges: Bowden, Buchanan, Fash, Satae.
Salford:
Evalds; Sio, Welham, Bibby, Inu; Lolohea, Hastings; Mossop, Tomkins, Walker, Jones, Lannon, Burke.
Interchanges: Flanagan, Lussick, J Johnson, Nakubuwai.
Referee: Scott Mikalauskas.
