As Marto said , any investment can only be a good thing. Difficult to justify purchasing a dog in the current climate when your chances of seeing your dog run on a Saturday is about once a month if you are lucky . A Thursday RPTV or Friday night meeting is whats required but do not think there is the kennel strength at the moment. Maybe if they had a few opens like at Perry Barr tonight hopefully they would have the capacity. Can only hope that the developers will be put off by the opposition and look for easier options elsewhere and that ARC purchase the freehold then move the track forward with investment to make it a premier facility for greyhound racing.
there's not a week goes bye that this forum doesn't do advertising for new trainers at belle vue, I have applied to be come one but I'm told at the moment the management are looking for full time professional trainers and not owner trainers like my self,, but I thought the idea behind the owner trainer scheme was to help tracks with a shortage of dog the likes of Belle Vue but it seems that's not the case and iv wasted my time.,,,,,, I would thing the coming sales will be a great help for toping up all the trainers kennels, I just wish I could get my two in it
Very good posting 'MARTO' as ever straight to the point
I second that guys!
Before you complain about the prize-monies, consider the alternative, of having - NO TRACK!
Some of our loyal owners travel a considerable way for the pleasure of watching their hounds on what they consider to be their track, so stop moaning, it has all been heard before, we are all in the same boat - it's your personal choice, so live with it!
ARC have hardly got their feet under the table and people want serious changes made immediately? Don't make me laugh, they are serious business people and will know just what they have taken on board, and act accordingly!
Their first target will likely be full clarity of the situation regarding long termism at the zoo - rather obvious one might say, so why are we bitching? We are, and by some considerable distance, in a far better position than B4 now that they are aboard!
Rome wasn't built in a day, when they are ready and clear on their way forward - they will act, and not before, but this may take some little time yet! Watch this space!
The situation on prize money will resolve itself when the right time comes, I agree that most if not all of us, may well have suffered under the tight hold of the "old" GRA, but patience may well have its own reward.
You are aware of the alternative and it involves using your feet, or having a long journey to another track to watch your hound if you aren't local - it's still your choice at the moment so be careful what you wish for, I for one wouldn't want the track to close!
Regarding any news, some will arrive when ARC see fit to release it - we all hope that this will be of an extremely positive nature, so should planning be blown out of the water - watch this space!
In the meantime, shortage of hounds very much appears to be the across the industry - affecting some more than others, it is the easy way out to blame others when perhaps you should be doing more yourself?
Our "apparent" shortage is down to a variety of reason, one of which was the unfortunate trial session loss last week, which has had a knock on effect, another is the lack of enthusiasm to purchase which is perfectly understandable under the current circumstances!
Yet another could well be down to progressive ongoing planning, so if you want to be part of what just might lay ahead, you may need to make a decision, again in your own hands, help us build the track hound strength to a viable level for progression, or stop moaning and use Shanks's Pony! Everyone has the choice - question is, what will you do!
We need everyone pulling together on this, despite past disappointments, we may well be at the dawn of a new beginning and if I had a crystal ball - I would tell you, but like everyone else, I await positive news - ARC aren't daft!
WHAT'S MORE WE NEED TRAINER'S THAT ARE BASED IN THE NORTH WEST TO COME ON BOARD.
I CAN'T FOR THE LIFE OF ME UNDERSTAND WHY THERE ARE SEVERAL NORTH WEST TRAINERS THESE DAYS RACING GRADED GREYHOUNDS ON THE LIKES OF PERRY BARR, KINSLEY, DONCASTER AND SHEFFIELD.
I HAVE SPOKEN WITH A LOT OF TRAINERS OVER THE YEARS AND THERE BIGGEST PROBLEM IN GETTING TO AND FROM TRACKS THE MOTORWAY NETWORK HAS GOT WORSE AND THAT TREND WILL ONLY CONTINUE IN THE YEARS TO COME.
NOW WE HAVE 'ARC' IN CONTROL DOWN AT THE ZOO I HOPE THEY CAN SORT OUT THIS PROBLEM EARLY IN 2020.
WHO KNOWS THEY MAY EVEN TURN THE CLOCK BACK AND HAVE TRAINERS BASED AT THE STADIUM?
MANY YEARS AGO WE HAD TRAINER'S IN A KENNEL COMPLEX BEHIND THE NOW DEFUNCT SCOREBOARD IT WORKED WELL IN THOSE DAYS PERHAPS 'ARC' WILL GIVE THAT SUGGESTION A THOUGHT?
I AM CONVINCED WE WILL SEE A FOURTH MEETING AT THE TRACK EARLY IN 2020 SO OF COURSE WE ARE GOING TO NEED MORE GREYHOUNDS AND NEW TRAINERS HAS TO FOLLOW THAT.
ROLL ON 2020...
Reason is the prize money Jim. £40 in B8s at Donny compared to £20 A3, not a dig at the track because I’m sure that will improve. Inflation means everything has gone up (cost of living, food Etc etc) trainers are charging £6/7 per day when it costs £20/30 per day to keep a dog at a boarding Kennels without a walk out. More prize money means trainers can charge more fees as owners are better equipped to deal with it.
Even a £1/2 day on fees can make a massive diff? If you’ve 40 dogs that 40/80£ a day is £14,600-29,200 a year difference. Hence the trainers on Monmore, Crayford and Romford can charge £12 per day. That’s the reason they are struggling to attract new trainers it’s purely financial. Just my view though
A MAJOR FACTOR FOR US isn't unusual. it is workers.if you have a biggish family you can do ok. if you have a big kennel [and we have]we NEED help. this doesn't come cheap.we have to pay nine, sometimes plus an hour. get stuck in traffic on the way home. you are into a hundred quid.at least.so we need more money.at bv you can only get this by getting winners. appearance money doesn't pay the bills. the outlook for us has been desperate. lately. like, everyone, we need it to pay. because we don't this you could argue we dont charge on our 40% dogs of which we have a good few, and we prefer to train for our selves our own way. this you could argue with but it has proved over the years to suit us particularly my wife who does all the work and isnt a funny person but enjoys her own freedom. we have gone into thousands to buy another load of dogs.these are offered on the 40% and genuinely. these things are very tenuous and a lot of people HAVENT REALISED DOGS HAVE RISEN DRAMATICALLY IN PRICE. if things remain as they are then we will be forced to either move tracks.or pack in. I can here now why don't you cut down when we get a price rise it will be easier.this is my own position. and I'm not looking for any sympathy. it is as it is. another thing is theres a few mistakes ,i cant be arsed.
