MABEL BLAIR
Greyhound racing lost one of its great personalities during the week following the sad news that Mabel Blair has passed away.
Mabel and her husband Joe have been involved in greyhounds for over fifty years and they’ve owned and trained some superb trackers, most notably the brilliant stayer Rush For Silver.
Silver broke numerous track records including the Shelbourne Park 750yd clock, which he held for a number of years through the 1990’s. To this day there is a still a picture of Mabel and Joe being presented with the Born Na gCon 750 trophy on one of the pillars in the tote hall at Shelbourne Park.
That picture features Mabel in her pomp, with her trademark smile. She will be sadly missed by her many, many friends in greyhound racing and her passing will certainly leave a void.
We send on our sincerest condolences to her husband Joe, her children Karen, Samuel, James. She now joins her late son Karl.
