THE GBGB will this week send out an eight-page survey to some 6,000 owners who have had a greyhound either during the past year, or were previously involved within two years. It is seeking to collate information on the ownership experience and has emerged after some previous in-depth, qualitative research threw up interesting initial results. "We'd be grateful if recipients could give it some thought, and then respond to us," said Barry Faulkner, GBGB chief executive. "This will then play a key role in helping us determine policy going forward." The detailed questionnaire is seen as providing the opportunity for owners to give their views on a wide range of issues. The GBGB, working with market research company ESA, initially conducted a number of focus groups with owners towards the end of last year in the south-east, midlands and north-east regions. It was the output from those exploratory sessions that have helped determine the contents of the questionnaire, developed by ESA. It includes multiple choice and rating questions with the opportunity for owners to expand on personal experiences. Responses to the questionnaire will be confidential with ESA providing expert analysis. Faulkner added: "Supporters of greyhound racing care passionately about our sport. It is only by understanding both positive and less positive views held in the industry that improvements can be made to safeguard its future. "The independent research we carried out at the end of last year suggested there is not one overwhelming factor that influences why people become or remain as owners. "We hope that those owners receiving the survey this week will take some time to tell us more. We will be surprised if there is a single solution to improve the experience of ownership but we believe the wealth of information we gather will help determine future policy decisions across all our areas of work." The questionnaire is being posted out tomorrow, with respondents asked to return the forms in the pre-paid envelopes provided by Wednesday, February 27. |
