 Charlie Lister: thrilled by Golden Wonder's performance
Golden Wonder shows some gears to win again
GOLDEN WONDER put up another impressive performance when winning his second start, the top division of a Monmore puppy race last night.
Breaking well, Charlie Lister’s June 2011 whelp was beaten for pace up by Fermoy Henry (4.31 sectional), and was then crowded on the opening bends. Suddenly, however, he switched into overdrive and swept into the lead at the third bend and drew clear to score by two lengths from Johnnys Boy, who plugged on for second. The winning time was a creditable 28.71sec.
Fastest of the night came from established star Seamus Cahill’s Loughteen Blanco, who made all in 28.57sec.
Quickest of the puppy winners was Gavin Holman’s Droopys Fern (28.63sec).
Monmore's Ladbrokes Puppy Derby closes to entries on Wednesday February 27, six heats are Monday March 4. The winner gets £12,500

I was at monmore last night and Kath Harris's runner Johnny's boy gave golden wonder a real race and IMO there's not loads between them. The distance was rapidly diminishing as they went past the post and Johnny's boy could be a decent ew bet for the puppy derby. Best of luck  |

Deadline time for Puppy Derby hopefuls THE £12,500 Ladbrokes Puppy Derby closes at 11am Tuesday and a number of hopefuls were put through their paces in trials over the competition 480m course and distance at Monmore on Monday.
Quickest of the pups was Kath Harris’s Johnnys Boy, an August 2011 son of Toosey Blue and Blonde Jeannie, who went round in 28.57sec (-10). He finished second and third in trial stakes to Golden Wonder and Droopys Felton respectively.
Gary Carmichael’s Beaufield Belle clocked 28.71sec (-10) and Paul Young’s Underground Paul 28.76sec (-20) at a session where the fastest time was the 28.30sec of Paul Sallis’s August 2010 dog Bold Three.
Mark Wallis gave trials to a number of his big guns at Romford, with Ayamzaman impressing over 400m, clocking a fastest-of-the-day, 23.94sec (+10) in a solo. Puppy Cup-winning kennelmate Glanmire Lad posted in 24.30sec.
There was a good trial at Swindon yesterday from Laurels runner-up Taranis Rex, Kevin Hutton’s charge posting a best-of-session 28.33sec (-10) over the 480m course. The track record is 28.20sec by Sids Dream just over a year ago.
