I dont think the challenge deserved a red card, but I think it looked worse from where the ref was stood. Also nani was done no favours by the theatrical way the guy went down, but sadly..thats part and parcel of the game now and I think any player on the pitch would of done the same thing. I have listened to quite a few different accounts on the matter today,on tv and radio..and the recurring statement seems to be dangerous play and endangering an opponent. So there is one thing that puzzles me,the madrid goalkeeper rushes out to punch the ball away from a corner..he misses the ball by a country mile and punches vidic in the face, knocking him to the ground. Not for a minute am I saying that he did it on purpose but surely this should also be classed as dangerous play and endangering an opponent yet this incident was waved away as accidental. So I think the red card was harsh, but certainly not the worst decision ive seen.

Worst Nani decision since Tyrone asked Kevin Webster to look after Ruby!

Shows the inconsistency of referees when the Wigan player has just escaped a sending off for a challenge that was much worse than Nani's and left a Newcastle player badly hurt. If the ruling is about being a dangerous challenge that could cause harm to an opponent, irrespective of intent, then surely he should have been sent off as per Nani

A REAL BAD THAT HENRY.
THAT CRAZY WIGAN PLAYER SHOULD BE BANNED FOR UP TO SIX MONTHS FOR THAT.
AND THE REF SHOULD BE STOOD DOWN JUST LIKE THEY DO IN THE SUPER LEAGUE WHEN A REF IS NOT UP TO STANDARD.
BUT ALSO WHERE WAS THE MAN WITH THE FLAG AND ALSO THE FOURTH OFFICIAL TODAY ?

Looking at the replays it is possible that the ref was unsighted because there was a player moving across his line of view. However like you say Jimmy, there are 2 assistants and a 4th official. They cant all have missed it. They appear to have all missed a blatant handball as well for Wigan's winner. Disappointed in Roberto Martinez. Saying that he didnt see it, but his player isn't malicious and wouldn't have meant the challenge. He should have said it was disgraceful and he would be dealt with internally. It is most unlike Martinez though, as he is usually a "gracious" manager and one i have a lot of time for.

They seem to spend a lot of the time looking at each other for guidance. That tackle was a shocker and should have resulted in a red card . The hand ball at the end was also easy to spot and no wonder Pardew was livid. I was also disappointed with Martinez. Top manager in my opinion. I would love him to be the next England manager . he didn,t go to Eton though. Oh sorry thats to be a cabinet minister. Regards Stewart from a very cold Blackpool
