Elaine Parker: her team was in good form in the Eggstravaganza heats In-form Parker leads the march to Monmore SHEFFIELD, one of the leading ante-post fancies to win the Easter Eggstravaganza title at Monmore on March 29, put their graders through the qualifiers last night at the Owlerton Stadium.
Race of the night was to be the Stayers qualifier at 7.43. The 660-metre slog went to Elaine Parker's 4-5 favourite Hather Sherlock who showed great middle pace to take charge but then had to battle hard to fend off a rallying Maverick Flame who got within half-a-length of the 40.31sec winner. Parker also enjoyed success when her Crimpos Rocky (11-8F) overcame a tardy start to win the Sprint in a modest 16.41sec. Qualifiers had opened with the Puppy contest where Lisa Stephenson's Vanjohn (5-4F) took advantage of a dream run at the first bend to slip clear to score by 4 1/4L in 29.83sec.
Martin Cutler's Russelena Barbie (7-4F), strongly recommended at 7-2 in the morning, was an emphatic all-the-way winner (29.63sec) of the Bitches qualifier at 8.14. Last up was the Dogs' qualifier for which Barrie Draper's Ballymac Arkle (5-2JF) turned in front and kept up a relentless gallop to score in 29.85sec.
**The solo open race on the card, a 280-metre Sprint, was won by June McCombe's Kilmalady Fox (9-4) who railed well to assert off the second bend and beat Bowtime Fella by 1 1/4L in 16.18sec [going -20]
