Chris Allsopp: each way value for Yarmouth's Wednesday Sky showcase
Allsopp the big threat again to King Charlie
CHRIS ALLSOPP has led going into the last leg of the two most recent Trainers’ Championships only to be pipped at the post on both occasions and he looks cracking each-way value with another bold display anticipated in the Ladbrokes-sponsored event at Yarmouth Wednesday night (live on Sky Sports 2 and SIS).
It is no secret that Charlie Lister, on paper, boasts the most talented squad and this has been reflected in a wholesale gamble on him to claim the title for the sixth time. The sponsor initially went 11-8, but he is now as short as 4-9 and he is certainly the one to beat with up to five of his eight representatives set to go off favourite.
But Allsopp has fared well in the draws with three of his four railers pulling trap one and all three of his wides getting six. He has depth to his team, can keep accruing points throughout and a win or two along the way will surely mean the place part of an each-way bet has a good chance of copping at the very least.
The opening 462m puppy contest at 7.34 is something of a microcosm of the evening as a whole with Lister’s Golden Wonder the selection and one to beat now that he has the inside draw that means so much to him, but Allsopp’s Cluxtons Free seemingly overpriced having beaten that dog to win the Monmore Puppy Derby final recently.
The 7.49 over 462m appears very open with cases to be made for all six – although Racing Post Juvenile runner-up Jaytee Hellcat looks to have a pretty tough draw – but Allsopp’s Daddys Knowsbest looks crazily overpriced at the morning odds.
Much depends whether you view him as the novice hurdler he has been campaigned as this year, or delve further back to note he started shorter than both Mags Gamble and Taylors Cruise in a Gold Cup semi-final at Monmore in August having even earlier run a certain Ballymac Eske to a length at Hall Green. At double figure odds, he has to be worth a chance.
Allsopp’s Express Flame has pace to clear in the bitches’ 462m leg at 8.04 but the compensation is in the price and she should not be so much bigger than favourite Bridge Ruth, while the Monmore handler can chip away in the other contests.
Barrie Draper is up against it overall but his Farloe Barracuda appeals as the night’s best bet in the 277m sprint at 8.34 where Lil Risky has the unenviable task of attempting to be the first trap one ‘open’ winner over the distance since August 2010 stretching back 29 starts.
Betting in-running
LADBROKES are breaking new ground this evening by betting in-running on a number of markets during the Trainers’ Championship meeting at Yarmouth.
In addition to overall winner of the Trainers’ Championship, the Rayners Lane firm also intend to trade a winning score market, winning margin plus the first trainer to two and three winners.
