WHO WILL BE THE FIRST BELLE VUE TRAINER TO LAUNCH THERE OWN WEBSITE ?
More and more Greyhound trainers up and down the country are launching there own websites.
What a great way this is to attract new and old owners and of course putting themselves in the shop-window.
Sadly here at Belle Vue we have 16 contract trainers and not one of them seems to be up to speed with modern ways and times.
I here every week trainers saying there are no new owners about, well that may be true but if you don't go out there and attract them well things will only get worse.
Far two many greyhound trainers end up owning there own greyhounds these days which is ok in the short-term but in order to progress more new owners and also those old owners who's been missing for sometime need encouragement.
'IF' I were a trainer at Belle Vue Stadium my first priority would be to launch a website, these days you must advertise and put yourself in the shop window in order to go forward.
When you look at all of the greyhound tracks websites these days more or less all of them are linked with the likes of twitter and facebook and by all accounts this also is attracting new business in quite a big way.
On the track websites they do give information about becoming a greyhound owner and of course give details about there trainers, but most of them just give a contact number which is ok for the first step into greyhound ownership but if all trainers had there own websites then surely these sites would pay dividends in the long term..
There is a very good article in this mornings Racing Post by Dave Clark on the subject titled 'Sport's online act needs to be given a shake-up'
It's a very good read and hopefully I will be able to post it up here on the B.V.O.F. later in the day.
Regards JR.

i have to be honest.i couldnt see us doing a website specifically for trying to place dogs. complete idleness is the main ingredient.and a smattering of other things.such as money you can charge at bv.everyone who i speak to dont want to pay any kennel fees.i cant for the life of me see the sense in working for nothing other than very low bv prizemoney.some want to do it good luck.it seems to work for some.famous yorkshire saying.if your going to do owt for nowt,do it for your sen. im not against people advertising there abilities.however i havent ever seen any of these sites generate a rush or even a steady flow towards ownership.if it was as effective as some claim i think trainers would have used it by now.

Would it not be a good idea to use the bv love the dogs web site, even put leaflets on how to become a owner better still show the benefits if four friends spreading the costs. Place these in the restaurant and in the pack they send out to parties who have booked to come to BV. We have been dragged screaming into the 21st centuary having our bills sent by email a very good idea with the benefit that you can cry into the keyboard, till you compose yourself to write the cheque..

'JC' The GRA/Belle Vue Stadium are already doing this sort of thing on there website 'LOVE THE DOGS' and also on twitter and facebook.
What I'm going on about is trainers trying to attract new business for themselves either by using a website or the likes of twitter and facebook or anything else that's available in these modern times.
Nobody likes change when your getting older but I'm afraid like or lump it things are changing all the time and rather than be left behind you have to accept the new ways or run the risk of losing out on any future rewards....

A website is easy to set up and can be done from as little as £5 per wk. I tried to find a Belle Vue trainer online when i decided to become an owner last November and couldnt find a bean. Think it would be good and could even chuck a few things on them like, Latest news, Meet the dogs (select few), videos of them running, and trainer profiles, list of services and prices, pics of facilities. wouldnt have to be ewt flash or expensive but could deffo attract new business (not sure how much). id even put a dogs for sale on there for new people who might be interested in ownership.

Totally agree, most trainers cant or don't have the know how or capability to do this and attract new owners or keep existing ones happy and in the loop. There is not one successful business operating anywhere that does not advertise in this way. I use a web designer for my businesses and I know they do basic sites for a very modest fee. I also know the first thing I would put in place is a strategy to keep new owners coming through the door and the largest part of this would the set up of a decent web site. There are plenty of people out there who would love to see what its all about and view various web sites. Unfortunately as each generation passes the sport is getting weaker. The owners we can generate the more dogs there are, this means more races, more money for trainers, more people watching and probably better prize money. Im afraid the old sayings are the best, "if you've always do what you've always done the you will always get what you have always got"
I have been involved in business and sales for many years and I know for a fact that if was to walk round as a trainer on a Friday and Saturday night and spoke to a few hundred people at the track gave them my number and web site details and did that very week for a few months you could double your graded strength. There is no shortage owners, you just need to look for them and compete for their money. One day when my business no longer need me greyhound training here I come.
