MATCH REPORT.. Ken Sio-inspired Salford had to be patient to beat Challenge Cup winners Warrington 22-6 and move up to third in the Super League table.
Krisnan Inu's early penalty goal was the only scoring of the opening 40, as Salford toiled against an under-strength Wire side in attack.
Sio, who went on to score a hat-trick, finally posted a try for Salford when Tui Lolohea's kick was fumbled.
Jake Bibby added to Sio's treble, while Danny Walker got a Wire consolation.
Despite the elation and emotion of Wembley success just five days ago, Warrington's anxieties will be heightened as they have now lost six league games on the spin having been drawn in by the teams below them.
In-form Salford have now won the same number of games on the bounce to push themselves right into the play-off reckoning, and they along with Warrington, Wigan and Hull are all on 30 points behind runaway leaders St Helens.
There was much to credit a Warrington side for in the opening 40 as they defended stoutly without seven of their cup-winning line-up, while free-scoring Salford had stuttered in attack.
However, once the visitors finally made the breakthrough with Sio pouncing on Tom Lineham's inability to take a Tui Lolohea kick, they found their rhythm.
Kris Welham and Niall Evalds showed sharp handling to put former Hull KR winger Sio for his second, and Bibby finished off after Joey Lussick had bust the line.
Sio's long-range hat-trick score put the game to bed and the Red Devils might have had another had Tyrone McCarthy not been ruled offside.
Warrington had the last word when Walker's try on the back of his own kick ensured Salford would not leapfrog them in the table.
Salford ticket offer to Bolton & Bury fans
Salford had offered season ticket holders at nearby Bolton Wanderers and Bury free entry to Thursday's game.
Bury were expelled from the English Football League on Tuesday, while Bolton's survival was secured after Football Ventures (Whites) Limited completed its protracted takeover of the club on Wednesday.
Salford, who were themselves close to administration at the start of 2013, say the offer will also be available for their final home game of the Super League season against Hull KR.
"Salford Red Devils fans know better than most, how awful they must be feeling and at a time when they will be in constant worry, we wanted to offer a distraction," said director Paul King.
"With a celebrity football match on before our game against Warrington, it seemed like a perfect opportunity to let those fans get together, as they have done so many times before.
"It's a simple gesture of solidarity on our part."
Salford coach Ian Watson:
"I'm really pleased. We needed to complete and we didn't do that in the first half. We felt if we could get them in an arm-wrestle we could exploit their weaknesses in the second half.
"It's a credit to all the players and backroom staff - it has taken us a while to get the right mix of players who want to be involved at this club and compete.
"We take each game as it comes. We are pretty healthy at the moment and if we can stay like that we can afford to be a bit more positive about ourselves.
"As a team going forward we don't fear anyone. We maybe lacked a bit of belief early in the competition but we had a bit of a light-bulb moment against St Helens when we showed we could compete."
Warrington coach Steve Price:
"I was proud of the effort. We had some late changes and we put the gloves on and had a good swing at them.
"It's disappointing that two top-five teams met when we weren't at our best. We looked clunky at times but that's to be expected. Salford were too good for us - they are playing good football.
"It's important we don't let mental fatigue set in. The players will get some time with their loved ones, they deserve that because we've not had a weekend off since we started."

BETFRED Super League:
LEEDS RHINOS 12 - 20 Salford Red Devils
Salford beat Leeds Rhinos to boost play-off hopes... Betfred Super League
Leeds Rhinos (6) 12 Tries: Myler, Jones-Buchanan Goals: Martin 2
Salford Red Devils (14) 20 Tries: Evalds, Bibb, Lussick Goals: Inu 4Salford won a seventh game in a row for the first time since 1975-76 to beat Leeds Rhinos and as good as clinch their Super League play-off spot.
They ended a 13-game wait for a win at Headingley with tries from Niall Evalds, Jake Bibby and Joey Lussick, after Leeds mounted a comeback.
Leeds had plenty of possession and pressure and scored tries through Richie Myler and Jamie Jones-Buchanan.
But they could not take key chances and Lussick's late try sealed victory.
With Leeds all but safe given their points difference there was a relaxed vibe at Headingley
But a huge Salford travelling contingent was evidence of how important a win for the Red Devils would be to their play-off hopes, and their team showed up.
Now only an unlikely points-difference swing on the final weekend will deny Salford a place in the play-offs.
Giants not safe after defeat at Saints French shines as Wigan rout Catalans Defensive last-ditch efforts from both sides were the hallmark of a bruising encounter, which Salford just about edged.
After almost a quarter of intense arm-wrestling, some magic from Jackson Hastings split Leeds open and free-scoring full-back Evalds backed up to score.
Bibby was put in at the corner as Salford extended the lead, although Myler's score off a Liam Sutcliffe break showed the home side were not lying down.
Krisnan Inu's boot established an extra buffer that proved key, particularly when a fired up Leeds came out and scored through veteran Jones-Buchanan to bring the scores within two.
There were some valiant displays of goal line defence as both teams refused to buckle, but when Leeds finally switched off, Lussick burrowed in to start the Salford party on the Western Terrace.
Only the sparking of a pyrotechnic device soured the celebrations, which could see Salford penalised by the Rugby Football League.
Salford coach Ian Watson:
"For us it's about taking it each week. We don't fear playing any team.
"The test was whether we could go through certain stages where we've had sets to defend on our goal-line and then come through the other side, which we have in the past two games.
"We've got the mentality to be able to win big games. The most appealing thing was the defence. If we want to be a top team we have to show resilience.
"[On the flare] It's not good. The club will take care of that. All of our travelling support were outstanding except one. One bloke has let that down."
Leeds coach Richard Agar:
"I thought we defended heroically in the second half, and I don't think we did much wrong in the second half.
"We lacked a bit of line speed but I thought we got caught on two plays.
"We played a lot of the game in our half. I thought a real big difference between the two teams tonight was the end of sets.
"We probably take a little bit of a lesson from Salford as they kept chipping away, kick-chasing. For us, a few too many errors in the first half."
Leeds: J Walker, Hurrell, Handley, Myler, Merrin, Sutcliffe, Oledzki, Briscoe, Newman, Seumanufagai, Lunt, Lui, Martin. Interchanges: Ward, Dwyer, Jones-Buchanan, Smith.
Salford: Evalds, Sio, Welham, Bibby, Inu, Lolohea, Hastings, Mossop, Tomkins, Dudson, Jones, Griffin, McCarthy. Interchanges: Flanagan, Lussick, Walker, Burke.
