GEELO CONEY (17.74sec) was fastest as Carl Perry completed an RPGTV National Sprint heat double over 305m at Nottingham on Monday evening as only 15 spots separated the four winning times, writes Jonathan Kay of the Racing Post..
A big drifter all the way out to 18-1 for heat two, Geelo Coney was in charge from the first bend and came away to beat Waltham Blue Boy by five lengths.
Perry, who landed the competition with Geelo Vegas in 2014, completed a rapid double when his Geelo Gold Dust quickly asserted in heat three.
The 15-8 chance went on to beat heavily-supported 5-4 favourite Carter Bar by, who had been slowly away, by two and a half lengths in 17.78sec.
Atarah King made it two from two since transferring to Gavin Holman, and a hat-trick overall, when claiming the scalp of ante-post favourite Loggies Lito in the opener.
It was a puzzling run from Loggies Lito who looked in charge when turning ahead but was passed by the winner on the run for home and beaten two lengths in 17.79sec, subsequently checking and stopping soon after the line although there was no obvious sign of anything being amiss.
Michelle Brown’s Signature Callum swept round crowding between early pacesetters Ballydorgan Des and Kelseys Phoenix at the first bend in heat four, ultimately powering away to win by three lengths in 17.89sec.
The semi-finals are next Monday 14-12-20 (live on RPGTV),
