BOWER LUKE was given a real race by Plaza Lep but the All England champion ultimately proved much the strongest in the pick of Nottingham’s Star Sports & Arc Derby trial strikes over 500m on Monday, writes Jonathan Kay.
All looked set fair for Pat Rosney’s 10-11 favourite when he pinged from trap three and led early but Plaza Lep used his local knowledge to run hard into the second bend to challenge then possibly showed marginally ahead at halfway.
However, Bower Luke was back on an even keel and drove back into the lead at the third and then forged away to win by four lengths in 29.79sec.
Sylvia Oakes’ Glenvale Gav went from the front to beat Master Reed in 29.84sec, while Matt Dartnall’s Mister Brentford just held the rally of Drumcrow Linnet to score in 29.86sec.
Colin Handford’s Easy On (8-1) won the opening trial stakes in 30.06sec, a contest where market principals Salacres Pippy and Deanridge Baloo crowded early.
In trials before racing, Jim Daly’s Blue Tick George posted 29.94sec (+10) over 500m with Joanne O’Neill’s Borna Shelly clocking 29.92sec, while Chris Akers’s Sonic Spur sparkled with a 17.78sec sprint workout over 305m.

ARC have issued a statement in relation to re-admission of crowds. There are no immediate plans to admit the public to ARC owned tracks: Newcastle, Sunderland, Perry Barr and Nottingham though the company remains in consultation with the respective local authorities. The statement reads:
ARC Greyhound Operations Director, Rachel Corden said, “As across all of our venues, we are keeping a very close eye on Government advice on reopening and admittance of crowds. At our greyhound stadia specifically, we are speaking to the relevant Local Authorities and are hopeful that we will be able to welcome people back through the gates in the very near future. We are also working on special plans for the Greyhound Derby Finals Night at Nottingham, with the aim that we can safely welcome as many people as possible to our feature night.”
“We are particularly looking forward to welcoming greyhound owners back on site and are incredibly grateful for their patience and loyalty throughout this difficult period.”
