Out of the Brambles came Elvis It has been a while since the ‘Bramble’ prefix has been a regular feature on the open race scene but Newcastle promoter Steve Anderson is hoping to bounce back with three promising young hounds.
The most notable is the former Pat Buckley trained open racer Glengar Elvis. A runner-up in the Barry 600 Final at Shelbourne, he has 29.56 550 yard form at Limerick and was 10 spots off the fastest 570 clock at Tralee last year.
Now named Bramble Elvis, he is yet to race for Steve but clocked a calculated 28.72 in his final qualifying trial at Newcastle this morning.
Steve said: “I thought the track was heavy so was delighted with the run. I want to check out the conditions with Towcester but providing they are as they appear, we’ll be heading for the Maiden Derby there.”
The kennels other hopes include Bramble Oreo, a litter brother to Ballymac Johnjo with 28.89 on his card at Newcastle and lightly raced pup Bramble Tango.
Steve said: “As a few people are aware, we had a very tough and sad time last year last year and hopefully these three will raise the mood. It isn’t easy to replace the likes of (Brambles) Reggie, Magpie and Millburn, but hopefully we can have some fun with these.”
