An official Salford version of the world’s most popular and famous family gaming brand has hit the shops this morning, and we’re delighted to announce it features Salford Red Devils.
In all, more than 30 Salford landmarks and charities ‘Pass GO’, with Salford Red Devils featuring on the board itself.
Salford Red Devils commercial manager Hannah Kilby said: “To be associated with the World’s most famous board game is massive for the club, in terms of getting not only our image and name out there to a wider audience, but the sport of rugby league itself.”
The makers have largely themed the famous Monopoly multi-coloured property sets around different genres. From heritage to shopping and culture to sport. The four train stations from the London original game each take on a ‘travel’ theme, as Salford doesn’t have four main line train stations to select from.
The very recently re-branded MediaCity – formerly MediaCityUK up to last month (September) – gets to land on the top ranked square. It replaces glitzy Mayfair from the game’s classic London original.
And here is how the new game works: Whilst the rules, money denomination, playing tokens and above all the spirit of the MONOPOLY game stay the same, all the property spaces become Salford landmarks. Chance and Community Chest cards are customised too. One rewards players with enough money for a shopping spree at Quayside! Whilst another fines players for littering at the historic Clifton Country Park.
The board is available now at Asda, Ryman, Selfridges, Waterstones, The Works and WH Smith – as well as extensively online, including on Amazon.

“I started at 10 years old…now I’m 72 and I’m still playing!”
Salford Red Devils exhibition opens at Ordsall Hall A two-month pop up Salford Red Devils exhibition has opened at Ordsall Hall.
The Salford Red Devils exhibition has a range of memorabilia from the history of rugby in the city and is open for the public to see from Sunday-Thursday up until December 12th.
A range of old kits, trophies, photos and posters are on display for visitors to explore.
The project is being run by the Salford Red Devils Foundation, who will have a member present at all times to explain the memorabilia on show.
The entrance to the exhibition...
George Tapp, 72, is a trustee at the Foundation and is present to walk visitors around the hall, explaining the different pieces on show.
He said: “People should just come down and enjoy it. We have pieces dating back from the 1930’s and even some before that.
“The hall is a fantastic venue, we would have liked to do more outside with the Grand Final and World Cup and greatly involve the junior teams, but we’re proud of what we have produced.”
A replica of the Challenge Cup...
The exhibition is closed on Friday’s to allow visits from school children, who will be able to get their hands on ornaments such as a rainmaker all the way from New Zealand.
Tapp sees exhibitions like this one as important for getting the next generation involved in the sport, which he himself has been involved with for over 60 years.
Some of the old jerseys on show...
He said: “Football’s all over the television, and rugby is a bit more isolated but when children get to know the rules and get involved in it they’re interested for life.
“I started at 10 years old and now I’m 72 and I’m still playing!”
The exhibition takes in a timeline feature, starting at the earliest pre-war era for the club moving on to the current day, even featuring kit from last year’s Challenge Cup Final against Leeds Rhinos.
Some of the earliest memorabilia on show, these photos date back to the 1930’s...
A model of the old Red Devils ground The Willows is on display, which is entirely made of matchsticks and took seven years for a Red Devils fan to build.
The Willows in matchstick form....
The exhibition was originally scheduled to be about the Rugby World Cup, but due to this being cancelled it provided the opportunity for the hall to celebrate rugby in the city.

Salford Red Devils are delighted to announce the signing of Australian second-rower Shane Wright on a two-year deal.
Wright arrives at the club from NRL outfit North Queensland Cowboys, where he has played for the last four years, and is an exciting addition to the squad for 2022 and onwards.
The 25-year-old, who has also had a spell on loan at Mackay Cutters during his time at the Cowboys, was named Cowboys’ Rookie of the Year in 2019 after an impressive season for the Queensland side.
In 2020, Wright was part of the North Queensland side that won the NRL Nines.
“It’s a new chapter in my rugby league career and I’m excited to come over here and get stuck in.
“I’m looking forward to improving my game and buying into the culture at the club,” Wright said.
Speaking on the acquisition of Wright, director of rugby and operations Ian Blease commented: “I’m delighted that we have landed Shane’s signature.
Shane is bringing with him four years of valuable NRL experience and after speaking with Shane and watching him as a consistent performer at the Cowboys last season, he is coming to the Red Devils bringing his workmanlike attitude, strength and agility to the pack for next season and beyond.”

Exciting ahead for Salford City Reds for sure what with moving to the new ground at the end of next season.
Here's hoping the move attracts all the missing fans when the Willows went under the hammer.
