...GBGB RESPOND TO SEEDING DEBATE...
TAKEN FROM THE GREYHOUND STAR β MAY 11, 2021
TENPIN - his withdrawal from the Northern Flat may have acted as a catalyst in the seeding debate. In a move that will surprise many, GBGB have acted swiftly to respond to growing media concerns over the seeding of greyhound in open races writes editor Floyd Amphlett.
A statement reads:
Following several instances where the seeding of a greyhound in an open race has been called into question, GBGB will be conducting an internal review into how greyhound seeds are determined.
Commenting on the announcement, Paul Illingworth, GBGB Senior Stipendiary Steward, said:
βFollowing conversations with the GBGB Owners and Trainersβ representatives and RCPA members, it has been agreed that we will conduct an internal review into the seeding process and trap draws. While the Rules regarding seeding are well established, this does not mean that these should not be reviewed and improved if deemed necessary and in the best interests of greyhound welfare and the reputation of the sport.
βAhead of this review, GBGB has written to all tracks to remind them of the key aspects involved in the seeding of greyhounds and we will feedback the outcomes of the review once it has concluded.β
This is indeed welcome news that will hopefully be received in the correct manner by owners and trainers

....DAVE BALDWIN JOINS ARC β STATEMENT....Arena Racing Company (βARCβ) today confirm the appointment of Dave Baldwin as Head of Racing at the groupβs four greyhound stadia.
Dave will join ARC on 8 June 2021, having worked as a Stipendiary Steward for the GBGB for the last three years and prior to that, ten years as General Manager at Nottingham and fifteen as Director of Racing at Sheffield.

ARC Greyhound Operations Director, Rachel Corden, said, βWe are delighted to appoint Dave to this new role that spans across our four stadia. He will be a real asset to our greyhound racing division, and we very much look forward to him getting underway.

...ARC ANNOUNCEMENT ON OPEN RACE ENTRIES... In view of recent events, Arena Racing Company (βARCβ) will introduce, as a condition of entry to open races at their stadia that, if a greyhound has not raced at that track before, it must have had a trial at the track in question prior to the date of the open race closing. A trial may also be required where a previous race or trial at the track in question was a considerable period of time ago.
Where a greyhound is entered with a seeding which does not reasonably reflect the comments allocated by the racing office, it will not be accepted without a further trial. This gives the racing office the opportunity to form an opinion first-hand on the seeding of the greyhound at their track.
This will be put in place across ARCβs four greyhound stadia for entries closing on 13 May 2021 onwards.
ARC Greyhound Operations Director, Rachel Corden said, βWe all need to do what we can to minimize the risk of injuries. Any greyhound wanting to join a trackβs graded racing strength has to trial on, under GBGB Rules of Racing, with at least two trials to the satisfaction of the racing managers. There is no such rule for open race entries.
βAll tracks are unique, and in the interest of fairness to all greyhounds we donβt believe that any greyhound should be expected to perform in a race at a track unless it has had a trial at that track.
βThe open race schedule is set out for the rest of the year so everyone knows when and where the open races are taking place, therefore trainers can plan ahead and request trials in a timely manner where required.
βWe agree that the current seeding system needs reviewing and are pleased that the Greyhound Board have announced today that they will be conducting a seeding review. All stakeholders need to work together to achieve the best solution with welfare firmly being put at the forefrontβ.

...CENTRAL PARK SALES CANCELLED β DONCASTER MOVED FORWARD.... Greyhound Trader have today announced that their upcoming sale at Central Park on Saturday 22nd May has been cancelled.
A disappointed James Corden said βWe received a phone call from Central Park this afternoon (Friday) letting us know they have concerns from their local council regarding Covid restrictions and thus they are cancelling us. Everything was in place on our end for the 22nd May and we were due to publish the catalogue tomorrow. We can only apologise to everyone for this unforeseen circumstance.β
Nathan Corden added βObviously we are disappointed as we are just a week away and it is not ideal for both the vendors and ourselves. We tried to find an alternative venue for next week but at short notice it was always going to be a challenge. However we have acted swiftly and contacted Doncaster to discuss moving forward our scheduled sale there in June and thus our next sale will be brought forward to Tuesday 1st June (from 10th June) so we will be able to accommodate the vast majority of our 22nd May entries plus new entries. We cannot thank the Watson family enough for their help in accommodating us for the earlier date.β
