COOLAVANNY SHADO raced to a fastest of the night 29.30sec as Patrick Janssens’ dog, 20-1 joint-favourite with Star Sports for the 2023 Towcester Derby, made light of his trap four draw when trapping well in the opening heat of the £20,000 Premier Greyhound Racing Eclipse at Nottingham on Monday.

He then drew right away from his rivals for an impressive six and half lengths win as Signet Goofy and Aero Squeak plugged away to take the qualifying places. Select Stakes hero Brookside Richie endured a nightmare run, bumped at the start as Coolavany Shado cut in sharply and was then clobbered twice more on the opening bends.

Janssens was equally delighted with his other kennel star, Oaks champion Slick Sakina, who soon put heat three to bed despite a moderate start. Her pace saw her lead on the run-up, keeping wide on the straights, to clock 29.53sec as she beat a plugging on Churchill Holly by five and a half lengths. There had been a photo for the places here with Da Bold Freddie a short-head third.

An exciting heat two also saw a photo - but to decide the winner. Kevin Boon’s debutant Bockos Palace (29.64sec) got up by a short head here to catch Barrie Draper’s Distant Podge who had led early.

Rain saw the track slow down. Carol Weatherall’s Untold Yen won heat four in 30.30sec after chopping off Derby third Mickys Barrett at half way when moving wide on the straights. The latter, beaten just over a length in the end, is clearly on his way back after an injury lay-off. Clairekeith Remy ran on for third here.

Heat five was messy with Richard Yeates’ Ballyblack Speed (30.15sec) ending up clear at half-way despite a slow start and a second bend bump. Blackhouse Harry and Droopys Gravy scrambled through.

Gizmo Pasha (30.00sec) battled through to take the final heat for Laurence Tuffin, catching Aero Dylan by three parts of a length. Distant Emma, bumped at the start, ran on to take third and go through.

THE semi-finals of the Premier Greyhound Racing Eclipse, flooded out at Nottingham on Monday after virtually a day of non-stop heavy rain, have been rescheduled to take place this coming Monday, with the final pushed back as a result by a week until December 5.

"We got permission from the GBGB to put it back a week," said Arc director of racing Dave Baldwin. "It's not ideal, but there weren't many options to reschedule.

"It never stopped raining all day and the decision was taken on Monday to cancel in the interest of the welfare of the greyhounds."

COOLAVANNY SHADO, the ante-post favourite, crashed out of the £20,000 Premier Greyhound Racing Eclipse when the rain-delayed semis were staged at Nottingham on Monday after being put back a week.

Patrick Janssens’ star broke slowly and then found a couple of bouts of trouble as Aero Dylan made all for Arran Dunn in 29.91sec, holding the staying on Clairekeith Remy by nearly five lengths. Signet Goofy was a non-runner here following the nightmare of a van break-down.

However, Janssens’ Oaks heroine Slick Sakina made it six in a row when taking the third semi in 29.76sec, though was given a real battle by Bockos Palace, who despite getting baulked twice, just failed by a short-head to get there.

Mickey Barrett was unlucky here, enduring another rough ride and although third, only the first two qualified.

Fastest was Barrie Draper’s Distant Podge, who led home a kennel 1-2 in the second semi (29.63sec) with Distant Emma, the pair both being owned by Peter Band.

Untold Yen gave them a race when showing great middle pace to lead from half-way to the last turn, before weakening to allow Distant Podge to regain the initiative.
