He is either not suited to Belle Vue or there is something a miss with the dog at this time?

It was a very poor performance yesterday, everybody associated with the dog was disappointed but that's dog racing,

If I'm being honest the dogs not been given a chance, he probably isn't suited to Belle Vue as a dog that lacks a yard of early but paces into the bend and that isn't a good combination but he is being graded for trouble, Swift Queeny has run him off the track in two of his graded races and moving him out of three into five was mystifying, he'd found a length every run previous to Sunday getting back to the form hed shown in his trials but gets pitched out wide for coursing the hare at the traps in his previous start, on Sunday the six was in there as a spoiler, a 28.50 dog with no chance of winning who would of taken his ground at the first even if he would of paced up, his run behind Slaneyside Nevin was decent and he gave it four length start, a dog that's hard to pass on the skin so we were heading in the right direction beaten a short head, to be fair he looked chucked in on Sunday I bet him myself (4's was too big early on PP) but the racing manager knows how to get him beat, we took it on the chin getting beat off the likes of Bills Direction because hes a top pup who will go well at Monmore with the best dogs in the country but its gutting to see an honest dog not being given a chance, I've been out the game a few years and this was going to be a bit of fun but to be honest I wish I hadn't of bothered, Garys a great trainer has put hours into that dog and he gets nothing but the best but it just leaves a bad taste, dog hasn't been on the bunny once in seven starts, we've ran him straight as a dye left nothing on his bed but are being crucified.

As for the dogs wellbeing he's had a couple of niggles but is checked over by Tom Peppercorn regularly a man I trust who I've used for years and he is 100% happy with him, after Sunday you have to question what to do - I refuse to allow a dog to be ruined before he gets going so we have some tough decisions to make, he wont be running anytime soon as the dogs welfare is paramount and I'd rather pay for him to be lying on his bed than run off the track week in week out, sad situation really but one that's made with the dogs best interests at heart.

I caught up with Belle Vue trainer Gary Griffiths who was at Nottingham with three runners on the evening.

Gary told me “I didn’t think Magical Fox really run to the level he can, he was a bit at sea on his first look at the track. He’s better than that showing though and I’ll bring him back for another look around, he can only improve.

“I was probably most pleased with my dog in the sprint Factfile, he trapped well and though he’s been beaten 5 1/2 lengths behind a good dog in Droopys Premier in the end

“It would have been no more than half that bar blowing the second bend badly, again on his first look. He’ll improve for that as will my other dog Droopys Boss who paced up well before again needing the look around, beaten just 4 1/2 lengths in third behind two good dogs in Kilara Lion and Ballymac Ambrose.

“He’s got terrific early pace has Boss and it will serve him well. I’ll be back with all three dogs. I’ve no doubt they’ll all improve massively for the look.

“They’ll need to show me a little more of their best around the venue before committing firmly but I’d like to think we could be confident enough to enter Fox and Boss for the Derby. They might only go a round or two but they’d give us a bit of fun I’m sure”.
