Paul Rowley has revealed the three players who will form his leadership group at Salford Red Devils next season. The new head coach says that new halfback signings Marc Sneyd and Brodie Croft, along with loose-forward Elijah Taylor, will have leadership responsibilities.
Rowley did not confirm the structure of the group and who would replace the retired Lee Mossop as the official club captain, but said he had been inspired by what he had seen in pre-season from that trio.
At his unveiling as Salford boss last month, Rowley had called for βleaders to emergeβ from within the squad, and it appears those three have done the most in that regard.
βIt was interesting finding out who the leaders were,β said Rowley. βThey come in different forms; some lead with actions, some with words.
βWeβve got a trio of people who really inspire me: ET, Sneydy and Brodie Croft.
βThereβs a mixture of action and words (with that trio), and between those three I think weβve got a really healthy leadership.β
Rowley also gave an honest view of the size of the task at hand for himself in taking over a Salford side which struggled last season under Richard Marshall and finished eleventh in Super League.
βI think the big difference first and foremost is the environment,β he said of the impact he has managed to have so far. βI feel like a bit of trouble-shooter coming in and starting from scratch.
βThe environment was a little dishonest because sometimes in rugby youβve got to give hard truths.
As long as thereβs truth you can fix things. I think there were a lot of grey areas in the group.β

Salford Red Devils are delighted to announce our pre-season fixtures ahead of the 2022 season.
Preparation for the 2022 campaign will begin on Saturday 15th January against Swinton Lions, kick-off 2pm, with our Women's team playing their first ever game against Swinton Lionesses on the same day, at 11:45am, in what promises to be an exciting double header at the AJ Bell Stadium.
On Friday 21st January, Paul Rowley's men will host Betfred Championship outfit, Halifax Panthers, a team that our head coach represented for six years during his playing career and the side that our new hooker, Amir Bourouh, spent a spell on loan with during the 2021 season. This clash will kick off at 7:30pm at the AJ Bell Stadium.
Our last test of pre-season comes in the form of an away trip to The Halliwell Jones Stadium on Saturday 4th February to play Warrington Wolves, kick-off 7:45pm, in what will be former club captain Lee Mossop's testimonial game.
Tickets will be on sale soon for all three of our pre-season fixtures......
