Salford Red Devils are closing in on the signing of Sam Stone.
the Reds are hard at work looking to secure a deal for the Leigh Leopards back-rower
and are moving nearer to a resolution.
Stone, a regular for Adrian Lam's side during their dominant season in the Championship, has been let go by the newly-promoted Super League club due to quota restrictions.
That has left him a free agent but is keen to remain in the UK.
That's where Salford look set to come in, with the 25-year-old now in talks to join last year's Super League semi-finalists. Stone made 20 NRL appearances before making the move to the UK,
linking up with Leigh midway through their 2021 campaign.
He played 30 times last season, scoring nine tries in the process. Leigh were thought to be keen on retaining him but with only seven non-federation trained players allowed in a squad, were forced to make some tough calls.
Meanwhile, Salford still have one quota spot remaining which now looks likely to be used on the former Gold Coast Titan. He will join a recruitment drive headed up by Wigan's Oli Partington and also includes Andrew Dixon and Adam Sidlow, who is also making the move from Leigh Centurions
