A learning curve for our young reserves and some valuable minutes for a number of the first team tonight, at the Halliwell Jones Stadium
MATCH REPORT π
WARRINGTON WOLVES 30-14 SALFORD RED DEVILS | FRIDAY 4TH FEBRUARY 2022 AT THE H J JONES STADIUM, WARRINGTON.
Salford Red Devilsβ young lads earned valuable experience tonight in the defeat to Warrington Wolves, in what was our sideβs last pre-season fixture before the 2022 Betfred Super League season begins.
Tonightβs game at the Halliwell Jones Stadium was held in celebration of former captain Lee Mossopβs spectacular rugby league career, and itβs safe to say our young lads put in a valiant display for Moose.
The hosts opened the scoring after four minutes through Jake Thewlis, who weaved his way across the line towards the right of the sticks.
What followed then was 30 minutes of back-and-forth tussle as both sides wrestled for control of the game, before Ryan Lannon got Salford on the scoreboard in the 35th minute, powering over the line towards the left corner.
The Wire responded three minutes later however β Ellis Robson crashing over close to the sticks to give Warringon a 12-4 lead at the break.
Half-time: Warrington Wolves 12-4 Salford Red Devils
The hosts were first to score again in the second half and it was Josh Thewlis, brother of Jake who was Warringtonβs first try scorer tonight, to bundle over the line in the left corner.
Just after 50 minutes had gone, Joseph Brady put Salford back in the contest with a try in the left corner.
After some built-up pressure on the Wire defence, Salford went over again in the 62nd minute through Jacob Lee, and a successful conversion from Jack Stevens cut Warringtonβs lead to just two points.
Jake Thewlis bagged himself another try in the 66th minute, after Salford were outnumbered down the left flank.
The last ten minutes saw Jack Darbyshire and Ellis Longstaff go over for the Wire, to secure Warringtonβs first victory of their pre-season.
