TAKEN FROM THE RACING POST..Heatwave puts greyhound racing in the shade BY JONATHAN KAY4:41PM 10 AUG 2022 GREYHOUND racing is set for a spell in the shade at many tracks in view of the extended heatwave forecast from tomorrow onwards.
Only Hove of the four Entain tracks will race before Monday at the earliest, with Ian Smyth, director of racing for the company, announcing: βWe have taken the decision this morning to cancel our meetings at Crayford, Romford and Monmore over Thursday, Friday and Saturday this week.
βThe forecast temperatures bring those tracks close to, or over, the 33C guideline issued by the GBGB and when there is the possibility of this temperature being exceeded we will not ask trainers to travel and race their greyhounds.
βThe welfare of our greyhounds, trainers, staff and our own colleagues will always remain our priority.
βAt this stage, the maximum temperatures forecast at Hove are significantly lower than elsewhere across the country and we do expect to race in line with our schedule across the rest of the week, though will continue to monitor forecasts throughout the week to ensure the planned temperatures do not rise.β
Arc will not stage racing at Central Park, Nottingham or Perry Barr for the remainder of this week, although Newcastle and Sunderland remain as scheduled with the temperatures not expected to be as extreme in the north-east. Swindon has also cancelled its afternoon meeting tomorrow.
There is no Irish evening greyhound racing tonight, and tomorrow will also be curtailed after Greyhound Racing Ireland called off planned meetings at Shelbourne, Limerick and Enniscorthy, leaving just Waterfordβs morning meeting.
A GRI statement said: βRacing and trial activity at all stadia is suspended from 11am, changed from 12pm, from Wednesday, August 10 to Friday, August 12 inclusive.
βRacing will not take place at Shelbourne Park, Limerick or Enniscorthy on Thursday.
βRCΓ will review upcoming fixtures at each venue daily at 10am and further notices will be issued regarding rescheduling of any relevant race meetings on the RCΓ website www.grireland.ieβ
With Crayford and Romford cancelled, there will be no RPGTV on Saturday morning with other programming on a day-by-day basis. As things stand, Hove will be a standalone meeting tomorrow.

OXFORD IS LICENSEDGREYHOUND STAR β AUGUST 12, 2022
View from the judge's box of the new revamped Oxford
Oxford Stadium is back. Promoter Kevin Boothby said: βIn the last few minutes I received a call from Senior Steward Paul Illingworth confirming that we have been granted our license. We intend to start trialing next Tuesday and Wednesday with the two first race meetings confirmed as Friday and Saturday, September 2nd/3rd.β
βI canβt tell you how thrilled I am and thankful to my brother Dave and all the people who have got this place ready to race again. I can promise you, as good as it was, Oxford is a far better and more modern stadium today than when it was closed down.
βIn my view, this is a fabulous day for greyhound racing in Britain. We will introduce new people to greyhound racing and if the atmosphere for speedway is anything to go by, with huge crowds, Oxford will be a throwback to the great days of this industry. And at the same time, I am confident we will bring many new people into the sport.
βI will make one thing very clear β we have not and will never attempt to poach trainers from other stadiums. But we have been inundated with enquiries from people wanting to join us. I want to see all trainers coming here with smiles on their faces and ownership being a fabulous experience.β
