CRAIG MORRIS – YARMOUTH
It is often said that young people can’t catch a break in greyhound racing,
so it is heartwarming to report a tale of one who has.
Craig Morris
Craig Morris (33) is a well known face in greyhound circles, having originally started on the Lancashire flaps before working for Otto Kueres, Brian Thompson, plus five years with Hayley Keightley. He even had a trainer’s license himself roughly 12 years ago. After Hayley retired, Craig went to work for Irene Barnard, who is also the grandmother of his child with daughter, Louise.
On Friday, Craig was granted his trainer’s license for a new kennel immedaitely next door to his in-laws and he already has 25 in the kennels which are owned by Yarmouth Stadium.
Craig said:”I have three more to come from Irene’s and we have room for 40 in total. Myself, Billy Brennan, Alan Wright and Stephen Carter have set up a sydnicate and own ten runners between us. Louise will carry on working for her mum, but my brother is joining me this week. In the longer term, there is plenty of room here to breed some litters, which I know Simon is keen to do.
“There are plenty of people to thank. Simon Franklin has been incredibly supportive and I really appreciate being given this opportunity. I would also like to thank Alan and Anjie wright and Steve and Maxine Carter for all the support they have given me.”
The ten syndicate greyhounds were all bought at the recent Greyhoundtrader sale where 38 of the 39 greyhounds were sold.
Simon Franklin said: “It was a great success and I am due to speak to Nathan (Corden) next week about arranging a date for the new year. The whole set-up was very professional. The vet checked over the dogs which were in excellent condition and fully vaccinated and we even received a congratulatory letter from Tracie at GBGB saying how all the paperwork had all been completed perfectly.”
