DONCASTER racing manager Craig Day has expressed his delight at the response for the track's two competitions starting on Saturday evening, namely the Yorkshire Derby over 483m and BGBF British Bred St Leger over 661m.
The Yorkshire St Leger has attracted a strong field with Patrick Janssens' 2023 Derby runner-up Romeo Command perhaps the star name - he faces a first round clash with kennelmate Droopys Doughnut and Barry Denby's star bitch Leighas Dream in a hot heat two.
Janssens is also represented by the likes of Juvenile Classic winner Slick Sentinel and ex-Irish Romeo Steel with regular Donny visitors such as Denby, Tom Heilbron and Kevin Ferguson also well to the fore.
"I think the local challenge is strong as well," said Day, "it was just a shame we had to leave six out of the competition but it's a mark of the strength of entry.
"Both competitions look really good and we're excited for the next few Saturdays."
The field for the BGBF British Bred St Leger, for which there are three heats with four qualifying, is headed by Laurence Tuffin's reigning champion Fabulous Dyna.Romeo Command the standout Yorkshire Derby entry at Donny
