::TAKEN FROM THE GREYHOUND STAR:: WEDNESDAY 19-7-23
ARC PLAN FOR GREYHOUNDS AT WOLVERHAMPTON ARC have submitted plans to build a greyhound track at the company’s horserace course at Wolverhampton (see press release below) writes Floyd Amphlett.
The move is not unexpected and follows seemingly well founded rumors that a planning application will be submitted for Perry Barr by the head lease holder. (Birmingham City Council own the freehold). Readers may recall a leaked ‘pre planning’ application for the site that we published earlier in the year. This type of action is common practise as developers attempt to explorse a council’s view prior to going for the more expensive full application.
At this stage, that application has not been made public though that seems to be only a matter of time.
Clearly ARC are acting in anticipation of that application and must now await a response from the council. (Have they themselves submitted a pre-planning application seeking guidance?)
The advantages of an established leisure site in terms of facilities, amenities and parking would suggest that a switch from Birmingham to the Black Country would be a relatively simple operation involving the laying of a new racing circuit and the building of kennels. The work of a few weeks. There is plenty of room on the site which once housed a trotting track.
Given the above – it appears inconceivable that the Perry Barr owners and trainers would be left ‘homeless’.
This is a story that is set to develop over the coming weeks and months.

Bloody shame about Perry Barr going under but what a massive boost for the Greyhound Industry a new track on the horizon.
I have been to plenty of times to Wolverhampton Horse meetings and I can't wait to see Greyhound racing taking place in the near future.
Hopefully all the problems that Towcester went through will be taken into account and knowing 'ARC' they will make sure everything is in place before Greyhound racing take place...
Well done to 'ARC'
PS: I still have not forgiven you lot at Arena for what went on down at the ZOO but like everything these you can only look forward and not dwell in the past.

Great news for all the owners, trainers, staff and patrons of Perry Barr Stadium.
At least Arena have come good by providing a track for you all to carry on in the game.
Perry Barr Stadium owned by the Birmingham Council was always going to go under one day it's was no secret the council had plans for the site for many many years.
The main thing is Greyhound Racing will continue and not like at previous tracks up and down the Country.
Best of luck to all concerned.

“Our aspiration is that Wolverhampton can become a landmark venue for greyhound racing, not just in the West Midlands, but nationally. Greyhound welfare is a hugely important aspect of our business, and we are grateful to STRI for their significant input into the proposal. We look forward to working with them and GBGB on making sure that any new facilities offer the highest possible welfare standards.
