TAKEN FROM THE RACING POST WEBSITE...Saturday the new slot for Barr finals By Mr Phil Donaldson FINALISTS in the Premier Greyhound Racing St Leger and M Lambe Construction Birmingham Cup must wait until this Saturday to resume rivalries after Perry Barr was forced to abandon Saturdayโs card following torrential rainfall.
Arcโs head of racing Dave Baldwin, who was at the Birmingham track for the gala meeting, said: โIt was so unfortunate and frustrating, but there was little more we could do.
โWe were hit with rain of biblical proportions in the area and the track quickly became waterlogged.
โWeโd run the first race okay but then the heavens opened again and the track staff worked hard to make things safe and to clear all the channels for the hare system.
โWe got up and running again over an hour later for the second race and all seemed good until the rain came again before the third and it ended up being a void race.
โThe safety of the dogs themselves comes first and we did what we thought was right at that point and called it off.
โThere was also a lot of people at the track, excited owners present and the race sponsors and you have to do the right thing by everybody.โ
Having spoken to GBGB senior stipendiary steward Duncan Gibson yesterday, Baldwin confirmed that the two Category One showdowns have now been put back a week.
Perry Barr racing manager Martin Seal was tasked with contacting trainers involved and said: โIโve had quick responses from almost all the trainers and we will go ahead with Saturday."
