SHEFFIELD received 48 entries for the 36-runner BresBet Steel City Cup when the Category One competition closed to entries at noon yesterday.

The £11,500-to-the-winner Category One starts with six heats over the 500m course on Sunday, with the line-up including Jimmy Fenwick’s Wicky Ned, who is eligible for a £10,000 bonus tabled by the sponsors following his success in the Owlerton circuit’s BresBet Gymcrack in April this year.

The Newcastle raider has not raced since a subsequent victory in the Time Northern Flat on home sand on July 25, but has been moving well in recent warm-up trials at the Owlerton circuit.
