The Greyhound Board of Great Britain is pleased to announce the appointment of sports law solicitor Peter Cadman as chair of the Greyhound Regulatory Board.

MONDAY 23/7/18...The GBGB have announced that they have appointed Sports Turf Research Institute (STRI) as consultants for track preparation and maintenance in support of the 22 licensed Greyhound tracks.
STRI will commence with scoping visits to all of the tracks between August and October, along with a member of the Track Sub Committee, and their work will include detailed assessments as to sand profile, drainage, equipment and individual track practices. A detailed report by STRI will be submitted to the respective tracks followed by further annual assessments by the company. A summary of the report will also be provided to the GBGB Track Sub Committee.
STRI will also provide support to training for track ground staff and carry out research projects as required.
Track Sub Committee Chairman Bill Glass, said in announcing the collaboration,
“I have known the guys at STRI for more than 20 years now and they have gathered a great understanding of Greyhound tracks during that time, so they know all the information that needs to be gathered. Within this project there is also the compilation of an annually updated sand database of that in use and supply, which will be of huge assistance to tracks. It also gives breathing space to look at training a potential Track Officer, to act as the day to day interface between the STRI, TSC and the tracks.”
STRI previously undertook work for the NGRC, completing sand profiles for some of the tracks back in the 1990’s. They are a globally recognised company for work concerning sports playing surfaces.
GBGB Managing Director Mark Bird said, “STRI will provide an integral part of the solution to supporting tracks in their preparation and maintenance processes. With additional money we would also like to see ground staff apprenticeships develop at tracks, supported by training from STRI.
Track safety remains a priority for all tracks and this long-term initiative with STRI will provide a good basis for developing this position.”
