AMY’S COMING HOME
With all the negative stories about the plight of dogs on the Costa Blanca it makes a refreshing change to report on a happy event.
Based in San Miguel is a small group of greyhound racing enthusiasts, most owned racing dogs in the UK before retiring here to Spain. They got together and formed the San Miguel Amigos Syndicate and set about purchasing a greyhound and finding a trainer.
In 2008 the group had its first runners racing at Belle Vue in Manchester. More dogs followed and at one stage there were four dogs running under the Syndicate’s name. The group is able to watch the races via the wonderful technology of internet streaming to a laptop.
Good homes were found in the UK for the syndicate’s greyhounds at the end of their racing days. Recently they have retired a small brindle bitch that had captured their hearts, Seathwaite Omega was her racing name, Amy her kennel name. Small she may be but Amy is as tough as they come. In 133 races, Amy won twenty four times, was second twenty times and third nineteen times.
Brian Allen, one of the syndicate members decided along with his wife, Jan, that they wanted Amy as a pet here in Spain. Arrangements to bring Amy over are well underway. All Amy’s paperwork (passport), inoculations and micro-chipping has been completed. Air conditioned luxury transport is also booked. So all being well Amy should be here sometime in April, swapping the cold and wet of Manchester for the sunshine of the Costa Blanca and blissful retirement.
The syndicate are planning a meet and greet party to welcome Amy to Spain. So if you see a small brindle greyhound out and about in San Miguel go up and make a big fuss of her.
