It is with great sadness that i report the unfortunate passing of John
John passed earlier this week after a short illness he was kennel hand for Darren Hampson. A few years ago John won the kennel hand of the year competition a prize that I know he was very proud of,although you would not hear him talk about it.John will be sorely missed by his partner Ann and family.
R.I.P John.

John first met Darren at a Wimbledon derby finals night along with his good friend John Peckham and soon after this meeting, he became a kennel hand for Darren.
John was retired and he wanted to keep busy, and took up a full time job working seven days a week in the kennels and going racing as well.
When John joined the kennel, I took a back step working full time also at the kennel cos Darren has reached his dream becoming a Belle Vue trainer and he had found a new kennel hand. At the time my daughter had landed a part in Corornation Street and was filming frequently so she had to be taken to the studio,s for filming.
When our kid was diagnosed with a brain tumor it had hit our family for six but john knuckled down and ran the kennel in his own way whilst Darren was recuperating. I was back helping out as much as I could but John was the general and I followed orders.
John loved his holidays and cruises with his wife Anne and went away without fail, twice a year.
They had booked a trip to Australia to visit their son but when John found out about Darrens situation, he told Anne she had to go alone. He stayed behind to look after the dogs
John was nominated for kennel hand of the year and attended the gala at the metro pole Hotel in London with Darren and their wives. John won the award and Darren had to say a few words about john on stage, and on sky sports. Darren was very emotional towards John and his input regarding the efforts to his kennel. I have never seen a standing ovation in greyhound racing last so long when John stepped forward to receive his award.
He will be very sadly missed by all, but he will always be part of the foundation of that our kids kennels are built on
God Bless
Mark Hampson

I think the above kind words by Mark Hampson say it all...Being probably the Hampson kennels longest standing owner I find it only fitting to say a few words about John.... I found John to be a genuine honest man who loved greyhounds and being in the kennel enviroment.
I have so many good memories of John....Just small things like insisting on always washing and drying the dogs feet when you'd taken them for a walk on a Sunday or sneaking your retired racer a bit of steak on his monthly visits to his old kennels or John always insisting on watching a race from the top of the stairs...The thing that sticks in my mind most is the reaction you got from him when you asked if your runner had a chance...he'd always reply ' The dog looks well ' and on the very odd occasion he said the dog looks 'REALLY' well you'd know to put that extra bit of money on it.
I have only good memories of John, and his passing is loss for dog racing and I for one will sadly miss him.
Rest in peace mate.
John
