Very sad news myself John Walsh,John Pailin had a good few dogs under the care of Darren always found John to be a real gentleman,he was a real good grafter who loved working with dogs. My memory of John is when the 6 of us went up on the train to london for John to collect is kennalhand of the year award.John was of very few words but we all knew it was a very proud moment for him and was well deserved. RIP John From Graham John Walsh.John Pailin,

TAKEN FROM RACINGPOST.COMJohn Price: has died after short illness Hampson pays tribute to former top kennelhand By Jonathan Kay 1:58PM 6 MAY 2013 RACING POST.COM JOHN PRICE, the 2009 GBGB Kennelhand of the Year, has died at the age of 66 after a short illness.
Price joined Belle Vue trainer Darren Hampson’s kennel ten years ago after taking early retirement. He received his award as recognition for the manner in which he stepped into the breach when Hampson was diagnosed with a brain tumour, from which he has now been given the all-clear.
At the time, Price said of the award: “It was the highlight of my greyhound days. I’ve always preferred to be in the background. I’ve owned the odd decent dog, but nothing brilliant. I’ve bred dogs that have reached A1, and some that haven’t. It was a tremendous night. It felt very good to be appreciated.”
Hampson yesterday paid tribute to Price, saying: “He never missed a day in ten years, you could trust him 100 per cent and he just wouldn’t let you down.
“I remember one winter it was -17C outside and there was two foot of snow so I told him not to come in too early and there he was at 7am as usual – I was still in bed and my baby daughter learned some choice new words when he rang the mobile for me to let him in!
“John was a bit of an acquired taste, he could be abrupt and say what he thought so people either took to him or they didn’t. But when you got to really know him his qualities were superb and we are all really going to miss him terribly.”
Price leaves a partner, Ann.
