David Ptuhs: double at Nottingham on Monday Scolari Sound fastest in National Sprint heats By Jonathan Kay of the Racing Post SCOLARI SOUND continued his march towards the top of the two-bend ranks when clocking the fastest time in the opening round of the Stadium Bookmakers National Sprint over 305m at Nottingham. David Pruhs’s March 2014 pup has now won six from eight over two bends after he took command from the first bend in heat three, going on to beat another frequent sprint winner Ballybee Bewery by nearly three lengths in 17.50sec. Pruhs went on to complete a National Sprint double when last year’s Romford Puppy Cup winner Laughing Gravy got up close home in the final heat, short-heading Cloncunny Ardera in 17.70sec, then made it a treble on the night when Fit Right took the 500m finale. Ante-post favourite Walshes Hill was given a good race by Mac Foiche in the opening heat but Jimmy Wright’s dog prevailed when it mattered to win by half a length in 17.71sec, while Nick Savva’s Barrow Rumble was a shock 14-1 winner of heat two as he beat veteran Lemon Pluto by a length in 17.67sec. Other heats went to Charlie Lister’s Sidarian Bullet (17.65sec) and Dave Puddy’s Comrades All (17.96sec), who scrambled home by a short-head from Stanton Bullet in the fifth where Blue Bees Bolt was disqualified for deliberate interference. * The draw for next Monday’s semi-finals will be made at the GBGB on Tuesday. *Carla Hendy’s Perry Barr track record holder Drumkeen Oyster clocked a smart 17.60sec trial over the sprint trip before racing.

Walshes Hill (T6) faces a test from Scolari Sound tonight Sound looks in tune for National Sprint semi By Jonathan Kay of the Racing Poast SCOLARI SOUND is very much the new kid on the two-bend block but such has been his impact lately that he has to be fancied to outspeed more established rivals to land the third semi-final of the Stadium Bookmakers National Sprint over 305m at Nottingham tonight (8.52, live on SIS). If the March 2014 pup has an Achilles heel it is with his starting and David Pruhs’s dog cannot afford to be caught quite as flat-footed as seven days ago as he will not find it as easy to recover in against the likes of Walshes Hill. However, speed for speed he looks at least the equal of that heralded rival so trap one can work to his advantage by allowing him to rail into command at the first bend. Cloncunny Ardera appeals as the best bet of the night when he goes in the second semi-final at 8.36. Runner-up to Brogan Tee Bone in the Scurry final at Belle Vue for Carla Hendy, he looked set to make a winning debut for Charlie Lister last week after scorching to the first bend only to be collared by an inspired Laughing Gravy right on the line. That rival re-opposes here but is drawn outside Comrades All and Mac Foiche who will both also tear to the opening corner and, in the case of Comrades All particularly, may then move wide. As a result, Cloncunny Ardera is fancied to nip inside to assert at that point and can hold on comfortably this time with the benefit of that first race in over a month under his belt. Stanton Stream saw his hat-trick bid just foiled by Comrades All in the slowest of last week’s heats but that was a far better run than it may first look and Kevin Hutton’s dog can regain the winning thread in the opening semi at 8.19. The race seven days ago became somewhat scrappy but the selection had paced up well and was resilient in the second half of the contest as well so a marginally better break may allow him to lead by the first bend especially as the real pace in the race is on his outside. There is also one 305m sprint open after the Bags section of the card at 9.41 with the Pruhs-trained Haydeezhero set to make the most of a big drop in class having been pitched in against kennelmate Scolari Sound in the National Sprint heats last week. Open Check nap Cloncunny Ardera 8.36 Nottingham
