Bit of a gamble then, to buy a sub 28 dog and then to be at the behest of the bv racing office...

Bit of a gamble then, to buy a sub 28 dog and then to be at the behest of the bv racing office... NOTHING TO STOP THE OWNER OF A CURRANT OPEN RACE GREYHOUND TRAINED BY A PRO TRAINER TAKING OUT A PERMIT AND HAVING AGO THEMSELVES.
INTERESTING TIMES AHEAD FOR SURE...
LET'S HOPE WE SEE A PERMIT TRAINER RUNNING HIS OR HER'S GREYHOUND IN AN OPEN AT THE ZOO SHORTLY.
ANYBODY WHO HAS TAKEN OUT A PERMIT CERTAINLY WON'T FIND IT EASY RACING UNDER GBGB RULES,
BUT I THINK IT'S GREAT FOR THE LONG TERM FUTURE OF OUR SPORT AND ALL RACING MANAGERS/ TRACKS SHOULD ENCOURAGE THEM WHERE THEY CAN.

don't think the strength will improve that much could just make Pro trainers lose dogs. Good idea for permitt racing to get new trainers in to the sport but imo current trainers will lose dogs to owners who think they can do better. Hopefully works out for the good

There is a few more Jimmy who have been approved in this area but their names have not been published yet. Competition is healthy and if an owner trainer wants to give it a go good luck to them , can only be a good thing in the present climate.Looking forward to seeing some old faces and maybe some of the old craic may return.

I LOOK forward to the involvement of the permits.i can also see another scenario, where some trainers may want to drop down to permits for ease of restrictions.etc etc. so it could go two ways.AND the benefits to tracks could be minimal if the latter becomes as attractive as it sounds. no upkeep of large expensive kennels.lots of dogs running when you chose will have its attractions for many of the trainers now finding it hard to keep up numbers runners etc.just my onion.

You have to remember a PERMIT TRAINER can only have 2 greyhounds and they must also own them.
I know of one owner trainer who has already been told you can't drop down from an owner trainer to a permit.
But of course there is nothing to stop a current owner / trainer not renewing his license at the end of 2017 and then at a later date take out a permit.

sorry dont agree it like a flapping track now we dont want it any worse, Im from the old school. all trainers should be full time not having a job all day then bring dog racing at night, thats what is wrong where is the professionalism trainers do what they like.

I fully understand where your coming from 'ebonypeaches'
We have the most trainers [18] I have ever seen on Belle Vue at this time and the majority of them are full time and have no other jobs/income so I'm not sure where your going on that one.
The greyhound game has been in decline for the past 25/30 years and more and more tracks have shut down.
The days of the big trainers are numbered and not just because no new people are coming into the sport the main problem is trainers plus owners like you and me are getting past our sell by date ie: OLD!
The GBGB are trying to address the situation of the shortage of trainer and greyhounds by bringing back the permit license.
In my opinion it's early days let's sit back and see if it works because if it don't well at the end of the day there is nothing lost.
Myself I can't wait to see a new permit man or woman out on the open race scene I'm sure it will happen soon but I know they are not going to find it easy from day one.
WE NEED NEW BLOOD IN OUR SPORT - SO LET'S GIVE THE NEW PERMIT SCHEME A CHANCE.....
