TAKEN FROM THE RACING POST WEBSITEBarry Faulkner: leaving post as GBGB chief executiveFaulkner calls time as chief executive at GBGBBy Jonathan Kay of the Racing PostTHE top two jobs at the Greyhound Board of Great Britain are in play after chief executive Barry Faulkner informed a meeting of the board of his intention to step down in November when he reaches 65.
Faulkner, who was appointed in 2010 after a lifetime in the betting industry, joined from Bags as the GBGB sought to build relationships with bookmakers and was followed into the organisation by his former boss there, Tom Kelly, whose own tenure as GBGB chairman ended last month.
Faulkner said: “The last seven years have proved tough going for greyhound racing which was particularly badly impacted as the recession bit. However, regardless of how difficult it has been, it has never been dull.
“My team at the GBGB have shown admirable commitment during my tenure to ensure that the services provided by them for the benefit of the sport never diminished.
“I believe we are now making progress with regard to putting the sport on a more secure financial footing and I will be focussed in the upcoming months on working with Tom Kelly [who has been retained on a specific remit to agree a deal with bookmakers to reflect offshore turnover] in our efforts to secure improved funding for the sport.”
