Trainer Pat Rosney has produced a short video to show the well-being of grader Swift Dylan who has been subject to inaccurate stories on at least one greyhound forum suggesting the dog had been put to sleep.

Pat said: “Dylan ran on Saturday night at Belle Vue and was injured at the first bend. His rear end became paralysed and he was unable to stand. He was carried off the track and a lot of speculation started that he had been put to sleep.

“What actually happened is that Belle Vue vet Diana Hodson treated him with a spray to his gums and within a few minutes he started to improve. Eventually, he actually walked out of the vets room and has continued to progress ever since. In fact, he jumped up on his hind legs yesterday to put his paws on my chest. His owner thinks it is a miracle.

“There are two points I would like to make. The first is to thank Diana for everything she did for Dylan. Apart from her veterinary training, with a specialist knowledge of spinal injuries, Diana also has an interest in alternative medicines. Dylan clearly had some kind of spinal cord paralysis and we had to spray the dog’s gums every 10 minutes on the way home.

“I don’t have a clue what has gone on, but Dylan is the third greyhound who I have had who has experience this type of injury. Each one has returned to full health thanks to Diana. But I am concerned that at other tracks, the would be a chance of the greyhound being put to sleep. Clearly these vets need to talk to each other.

“Secondly, although I haven’t seen the stories – I don’t go on the forums – I am told that there is a lot of inaccurate information on line about what has happened to Dylan. The antis outside Belle Vue already tell enough lies without being fed more rubbish especially from people who claim to be greyhound followers.

“Although Dylan appears to be almost back to his former self, we won’t risk racing him again. He will be found a good home – like all our ex-racers.”
