Racing Post Juvenile at Sheffield for second year.....
BY JONATHAN KAY
THE Racing Post Juvenile has been confirmed at Sheffield for a second successive year with the invitation race switching to a weekend slot on Saturday, March 2.
Worth £5,000 to the winner, £1,000 for second, £500 third and £300 others, the 500m race brings together the leading puppy performers in the second half of 2018 and is live on Racing Post Greyhound TV and TRP.
In terms of invitations, preference may be given to the winners of, and finalists in, leading puppy competitions from June 2018 onwards with the age limit being July 2016 whelps or younger.
As such, Puppy Classic winner Blue Trooper, Grays Cup Winner (Romford Puppy Cup), Droopys Trawler (Northern Puppy Derby) and Argentina (Puppy Derby) can all expect invitations which, if not taken up, will be offered to other finalists from those competitions in the first instance.
Racing Post editor Tom Kerr said: "We're proud to continue our association with the Racing Post Juvenile, a fantastic launching pad for greyhound racing's stars of tomorrow.
"The Racing Post juvenile is a race with a long and storied history which we're delighted to support and see thriving in its new home at Sheffield."
Diamond can cut loose for Maiden 500 final score.....
BY JONATHAN KAY
UNCUT DIAMOND was having his first look at the track in the heats last week and Gary Ferguson’s dog can show the benefit of that to go from the front and land Sheffield’s Maiden 500 final at 9.14 (live on Racing Post Greyhound TV/TRP).
The Shawfield raider had won back-to-back top-grade contests at home base coming into the event and again showed excellent early pace before succumbing close home to Ballydoyle Frank in the fastest time of the round.
He has a vacant trap on his outside this evening, looks good to race to the front once again and will prove very difficult to reel in, especially with the prospect of trouble in behind.
Small But Deadly has won six of his eight British races and further success is on the cards in the opening heat of the Sheffield Stadium Standard over 500m at 6.55.
THE Tuesday RPGTV Flying Four selections, all at Sheffield, are Small But Deadly (6.55), Fourpenny Castle (7.09), Newinn Missile (7.26) and Uncut Diamond (9.14).
Hills go 100-1 that all four Flying Four selections oblige. A non-runner in any of the races will see successful bets settled as an SP accumulator.
