Saturday night round-up from the Owlerton Stadium, Sheffield:
HEADFORD RANGER continued his fine start to the campaign with another excellent display as he was fastest once again in the semi-finals of the RPGTV Steel City Cup over 500m at Sheffield on Saturday, writes Jonathan Kay of the Racing Post..
Sent off evens for the second semi, Kevin Hutton's dog showed good early to lead at the first bend after which the only real doubt was the winning distance, ultimately just over three lengths from a gallant Lenson Whelan in 28.72sec (-10).
The opening semi saw Laurence Tuffin's Deadly Expert regain the winning thread as he went from the front to beat Fire Height Chaz by almost three lengths in 28.97sec, likewise Bev Heaton's Ballymac Ambrose in the third as he clocked 28.81sec.

Roman Empire was utterly dominant in the opening heat of the Queen Mother Memorial Cup over 660m even allowing for bad crowding in behind that took out two-thirds of the field just after the first bend.
Ernie Gaskin's winner was already clear at that point and went further and further away, eventually scoring by 13 lengths from Droopys Gina in 38.58sec.
Defending champion Stardom ended up on the floor but was reported okay afterwards, while Headford Maurice, who also fell and failed to finish, was reported lame and being attended by the vet.
Mark Wallis's Antigua Sands went clear in the second heat and held off the strong finish of Ballymac Saga by half a length in 39.76sec, while Sean Parker's Farran Bourbon had just enough in hand having battled to the front to shade Our Supreme Sue by a neck in the third as he posted 39.48sec.
