ROXHOLME KRISTOF made a stunning British debut when setting a new 480m track record in heat four of the Gain Nutrition 3 Steps To Victory at Sheffield on Tuesday, writes Jonathan Kay.
Hayley Keightley’s dog was in a different league from the outset and went further and further away as he beat Easy On by over six lengths in 27.27sec, five spots inside the previous best of Candlelight King.
And the Keightley kennel went on to complete a double in heat six when their Roxholme Glory made a triumphant return from a broken hock in heat six as he beat outsider Sophies Ace in 27.78sec.
Angela Harrison had a mixed night with Coolavanny Bani winning heat three in style in 27.73sec although kennelmate and Angel of the North Oaks champion Waltham Magic was eliminated in fourth, while her classy Velvet Juliet hit the rails and subsequently dropped away when favourite for Roxholme Glory’s heat.
Second quickest time of the round was the 27.57sec of Jodie Payne’s Coolavanny Combo in heat five after he pinged out to a 3.14sec sectional.
The opening heat went to Clever Airmount in 27.86sec, a fourth consecutive winner at the meeting for Barrie Draper who had previously completed a graded hat-trick.
Lenson Austin opened his account for Patrick Janssens in heat two, a fast start key as it allowed him to just clear Daddys Prince and go on to hold that gallant rival by a length in 27.81sec.
*The draw for next Tuesday’s 500m semi-finals will be made at the GBGB on Wednesday 16-9-20.
The 660m final is on Tuesday September 29 Live on RPGTV Channel...
