QUEEN DOLLY lit up the BGBF British Breeders Stakes at Nottingham on Monday with a demolition job on her heat two rivals in the first round of the 500m competition, writes Jonathan Kay of the Racing Post..
Liz McNairβs dog was always to the fore and drew right away from the second bend as she beat Afan Hunkster by seven lengths in 29.27sec, the third fastest time of the year bettered only by Derby champion Deerjet Sydney in round two of the Classic and Doolin Duke in the Derby Plate final.
McNair went on to complete a double when King Louis landed odds of 4-7 in heat five, overcoming a slow start to lead at the third bend and beat Denmark by three lengths in 29.77sec.
Second quickest time of the night came in the finale when Acomb Lillian showed her rivals a clean pair of heels then comfortably held Saving Mullpark in 29.43sec.
That victory allowed trainer Kevin Ferguson to emulate McNairβs achievement by completing a double of his own after his Acomb Winston had registered the biggest winning margin in heat four.
Drawing right away from the second bend, he scored by nine lengths from Signature Finlay in 29.51sec.
The opening heat saw Bob Smithβs Amka Rofe power to victory, hitting the front at the third bend and going away to beat Boca Junior, who had suffered a troubled run, by two and a half lengths in 29.88sec.
Luke Morrisonβs Signet Hawk was an 8-1 winner in heat three, just holding off odds-on favourite King Cash by a short-head in 29.93sec.
The draw for Monday's semi-finals will be made at the GBGB on Tuesday morning.
