BROOKSIDE RICHIE now dominates the £12,500 Arc Northern Flat after the shock elimination of ante-post favourite Coolavanny Shado - who seemed to confirm that he dislikes Newcastle when failing to recover from early bunching.
But Brookside Richie, the Select Stakes champion, romped heat three by four and half lengths in a fastest of the night 28.34sec. Jimmy Fenwick’s dog made all and was soon well clear. Freedom Epic plugged on to take second for Tom Heilbron with Good Vienna qualifying in third.
Anyone holding an 11-2 ante-post voucher on Brookside Richie is sitting pretty.
Coolavanny Shado though, who won Monmore’s Winter Derby last Saturday week, broke slowly in heat two, was crowded early before checking off wide after he was baulked at the first (he had done something similar here last year), then was crowded several times more as he tried to get back on the inside.
In a bunched finish, leader Maglass Sid (28.75sec) held on by a short-head for Angela Harrison with Heilbron’s Freedom Alibi running on well after a slow start to take second. Marinas Joker held every chance a further short-head away.
Other winners were Paisley Pearl, 16-1 winner of the opener after Kilara Scottie sadly broke down on the run-in when leading. Neil Brown’s dog held Narcos The Great by a short-head in 29.25sec
Tell Boy (28.86sec) won well in heat four for Garry Hamilton, he held Marinas Poniente by over three lengths.
Raymond Hale’s Swift Silly took charge at the first bend to take heat five in 28.69sec, Chasing Eddie ran on well after a very slow start for second, beaten nearly two lengths.
The final heat turned into a bunched affair with Droopys Biggy coming last to first for Angela Harrison as the leaders crowded at the third bend. Killieford Defoe, also in the rear early, ran on for second, two lengths behind the 28.95sec winner.

BROOKSIDE RICHIE marched imperiously into Thursday’s Arc Northern Flat final over 480m at Newcastle, blasting clear (quickest sectional 4.52sec) in his semi for another fastest-of-the-night run in 28.33sec.
Droopys Biggsy, who broke very slowly, ran on late for Angela Harrison to snatch second, beaten four lengths.
Jimmy Fenwick’s winner is unbeaten in the event, but a headache for his fans proved to be the draw for the £12,500 final next week. Droopys Biggy was the only seeded runner to qualify and automatically got trap six. Brookside Richie though ended up with trap five.
He has only raced the once from there before - in last October’s BresBet Steel City Cup final at Sheffield. He found trouble and finished sixth.
The only other unbeaten qualifier is Raymond Hale’s Swift Silly. She is also the only bitch and a pup too. She produced good early to lead on the run-up and then held Tom Heilbron’s Freedom Epic by over a length in 28.80sec.
The opening semi went to Garry Hamilton’s Marinas Joker. He showed speed and determination to overcome a first bend baulk and then overhaul the leading Anynamewilldo down the back, going on to win by nearly two lengths in 28.76sec The latter gives Heilbron two finalists.
