..14-1, 14-1, then 16-1. Puma pounces for third time!..
Having won previously at 14-1 in both his heat and semi, nobody had told the dog he was yet again the rank outsider. He popped out and made all as a messy race resulted behind him, with Ernie Gaskin’s Droopys Addition taking second. He was beaten a length and a half over the 575m course by the 35.47sec winner.
Favourite Sparta Master, who had previously also won his heat and semi, missed his break and, after crowding, had to be content with third place, albeit was close up.
The £1,000 Mitch Millward Marathon final (750m) saw a thriller with favourite Micks Little Gem getting up by a head from Stardom as the field bunched close home. Michelle Brown’s bitch winner clocked 47.51sec. She is TV Trophy bounced next (945m Hove, closes to 18 entries on Monday, heats Saturday December 12)
Earlier finals saw Mullins notch another big-priced win, this time through 12-1 Pantone Quest in the £500 Maiden Stayers decider (35.73sec). Antigua Romeo went off 1-3F but had to be content with third.
Bubbly Spark (11-2) took the 400m final for Paul Young, kicking clear of first bend trouble to win by over two lengths in 24.08sec
