TAKEN FROM THE RACING POST TUESDAY 5-10-21....Newcastle will only race in daylight while a lighting issue is resolved
THE evening Bags meeting scheduled at Newcastle for Tuesday night was cancelled late on Monday, with promoters Arena Racing Company (Arc) confirming the reason being a track lighting issue.
The track's meeting scheduled for Wednesday will now swap with sister track Sunderland.
Moving forward, Newcastle will schedule to race only on morning meetings, to allow a significant upgrade to the lighting system at the track to take place.
Arc head of racing Dave Baldwin said, "We can only apologise to the owners and trainers at Newcastle and thank them for their patience.
"We look forward to starting work on installing a new LED lighting system at Newcastle and resuming our normal schedule as soon as possible."

Towcester have been forced to alter the dates of the 2022 Greyhound Derby due to circumstances beyond their control.
Track spokesman Nathan Corden said: โWe were informed last weekend that the F1 British Grand Prix has been brought forward by 2 weeks to the weekend of 2nd/3rd July. When initial contact was made with Silverstone we were informed it would be the weekend of 16th/17th July but could potentially be 9th/10th July.
โWe obviously set our dates around them which will now not work and thus we contacted the GBGB immediately on Monday morning to request a change. We are delighted that request has been granted today and therefore the Derby will move forward one week to finish on Saturday 25th Juneโ
New Derby dates are:-
1st Round โ 19/20/21 May 2nd Round โ 27/28 May 3rd Round โ 4 June Quarters โ 11 June Semis โ 18 June Final โ 25 June

TAKEN FROM 'TWITTER' www.birminghammail.co.uk/sport/other-sport/next-level-perry-barr-greyhound-21850612 BIRMINGHAM LIVE..'Back to life' - Perry Barr Greyhound Stadium has big plans...
In an industry getting back on its feet after a lay-off, Perry Barr is flourishing under relatively new management and their schedule is as impressive as ever.
Perry Barr is a bit of a nightmare at the moment.
Everywhere you look, there are roadworks. Thereโs traffic. Rush hour is a needs must zone. The flyover is being tended to. Plenty of work is being done in the area which has for some time needed modernising, especially with the world coming to their doorstep for the Commonwealth Games in less than a yearโs time.
If you venture into Perry Barr and battle through the swathes of cars, youโll struggle to miss the dogs track, especially at night when the floodlights shine brightly. It stands tall and proud amid its currently ugly surroundings, of which the result of the ongoing works will be unveiled in time.
The stadium is as old as any of the buildings that have been torn down around it lately, but it will be a constant for years to come yet and its near hundred-year history built upon.
โOne of the key things for us is that, while the stadium might never be as modern looking as some of the buildings going up, we want to make sure it looks as though itโs still meant to be there, itโs well maintained and that it has some character to it. It will always have that character, whenever you go past it,โ Anthony Gledhill, the Perry Barr Stadium general manager, told BirminghamLive .
Itโs not just like the stadium is just existing right now - under Arena Racing Company (ARC), who took over from the defunct Greyhound Racing Association a couple of years ago, theyโre thriving and are attracting some of the biggest names in the sport to compete in some of the biggest races.
ARC run 16 racecourses and five greyhound tracks, including Perry Barr, and the plan is to continuing raising the standards.
โItโs a case of bringing the greyhound stadia in line with how we operate elsewhere - that involves improving the level of service, the quality of food thatโs on offer, improving the facilities so that itโs not just allowing them to be run down - itโs bringing them back to life again and making it look really appealing.
โWe want people to know itโs a nice facility and that people can come here, thatโs our biggest ethos at the minute.โ
Like with any industry in any part of the world, greyhound racing - which was one of the first sports back in action in the UK behind closed doors - has been hit by the impact of the pandemic.
Staffing levels are currently low, and itโs meant that Perry Barr in a hospitality sense isnโt actually at full capacity yet, but theyโre slowly building their way back up.
The team currently working at Perry Barr are, after all, considered to be among the best in the sport.
โI want people to know that we have the best team, the best facilities, the best running surface for the dogs,โ Anthony said.
โSome of the team have a happy demeanour about them because theyโre enjoying it, and theyโre seeing the rewards because weโre getting these big competitions.โ
Those competitions are forever improving. The calendar is glittering, particularly at this time of year. Only a couple of weeks ago, Candy Man claimed the Birmingham Cup with a 28.10-second run. On the same night, Space Jet broke the track record to win the St Ledger, one of the sportโs classics.
Ongoing at the moment is the Oaks, deemed to be the most prestigious race in greyhound racing aside from the Derby, and the final - worth ยฃ15,000 - takes place at the end of this month.
โSome of the dogs turning up here...you donโt get any better,โ Anthony reasoned. โIt is that good and itโs really exciting.โ
The welfare of the animals is of course paramount and ARC and the Greyhound Board of Great Britain (GBGB) have an injury recovery scheme in place - the IRS provides additional financial support for any veterinary fees in addition to there being an ever present vet at every track, who checks on each dog before and after the race.

โThereโs a really good success rate in the recovery. The racing side for a greyhound is only a small portion of its life, so we work with re-homing centres who support and help fund that these dogs can go to a new home once theyโve finished racing.
โThereโs an awful lot put in that people donโt realise. Coming from a horse background, Iโd actually say that there is more done now within greyhound welfare than there is in horse welfare - the greyhound welfare did have a poor reputation previously.โ
In an industry getting back on its feet after a lay-off, Perry Barr is flourishing under relatively new management and their schedule is as impressive as ever.
