...Eclipse at Nottingham among host of weather-hit meetings... BY JONATHAN KAY OF THE RACING POST NOTTINGHAM's Monday night meeting, which was due to have featured the final of the Arc Eclipse, became the highest-profile victim of the current cold snap when it was called off at around 2pm.
"Temperatures suddenly dipped and the frost became an issue when it had been coming out before that," explained Arc's director of greyhound racing Dave Baldwin.
"Rather than wait and mess people about by making what might have been an unnecessary journey, we've called it off. I'll speak to the GBGB about rescheduling."
Morning SIS meetings at both Central Park and Henlow were cancelled after initially being delayed, while Sheffield's afternoon Bags cards bit the dust.
The evening meeting at Towcester was also off with the track succumbing to frost for a second day. "It was definitely better than Sunday," said joint racing manager Andy Lisemore, "but still not right and the temperature wasn't due to rise that much.
"Looking at the forecast for Tuesday we don't anticipate problems as we are meant to get to double figures during the day."
Tuesday's meeting has seen the Gain Greyhound Nutrition Sovereign Stakes added to the programme alongside eight RPGTV English Puppy Derby heats having initially been scheduled to be staged at Sunday's abandoned meeting.
In the absence of Towcester on Monday, RPGTV has picked up coverage from Youghal to complement the Doncaster meeting. |
