The Greyhound Board of Great Britain (GBGB) is pleased to announce a new partnership with Van Ninja Leasing (part of Dawsongroup PLC) to support trainers in purchasing or leasing vehicles that meet the new 2023 air-con requirements.
From 1 April 2023, all vehicles transporting racing greyhounds must be air-conditioned and able to maintain a temperature of between 10Β°C β 26Β°C in their cargo area. This new measure being introduced by GBGB will ensure the comfort and safety of all greyhounds travelling to and from the track during all weather conditions.
Van Ninja will be offering three vehicles within the Vauxhall range as part of the partnership: the Combo, the Vivaro and the Movano. They will be offering discounts to GBGB licensed trainers on the vans, which all come with air conditioning that meets the upcoming requirements and are ideal to fit DEFRA approved travel cages.
As part of the partnership, Van Ninja will also be offering a donation towards GBGBβs welfare initiatives on any vehicle sold on a business lease through this partnership.
The discounted rates will be available from January 2022. For more information or to register your interest, please contact Van Ninja on 0330 122 0102. A demo vehicle will be visiting stadia in 2022 and a schedule of these visits will be published in the GBGB calendar in due course.
This partnership is in addition to GBGBβs TAF Transportation Funding, which is on offer for trainers to use in whichever way best enables their vehicle to meet the new requirements. The funding is in the form of a one-off grant payment of up to a maximum of Β£2,000 per vehicle, per trainer (capped at a maximum of 2 vehicles).
To support trainers buy comprehensive cover for their vehicles, GBGB is partnering with A Plan Insurance β one of the largest van insurance providers in the UK. They will be offering special rates for trainers with modified vehicles. A-Plan will also be offering a donation towards greyhound welfare for each policy. Trainers can contact A Plan on 01635 879 910 .

Manchester's New Year's Eve firework display has been cancelled after a surge in the Omicron variant of Covid.
Councillor Pat Karney, from Manchester City Council, said it had been a difficult decision but "we have to put the health of our residents first".
It is the second year in a row that the event has been cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
It comes two months after London's firework display was cancelled because of "uncertainties caused by Covid".
Manchester City Council said the decision had been taken due to current government guidance regarding vaccine passports for large outdoor events, which would prove extremely challenging to manage due to the open and public nature of the event.
Mr Karney said it was a "massive disappointment" to cancel the event, adding "we know that many people will be upset about this".
"It was a difficult decision to make but with the new Covid variant spreading quickly - and government regulations around large events - we have to put the health of our residents first," he added
Manchester's Christmas Markets will close on Wednesday, while the Winter Gardens will close on 2 January.
Winter Gardens, which is based at Piccadilly Gardens, will be open throughout the festive period and there will be live music and entertainment on the stage each night.
On New Year's Eve, Winter Gardens will be serving food and drink from 10:00 to 17:00 GMT.
The ice rink in Cathedral Gardens will close on 3 January.
