Salford were first on the board after 8 minutes of play, with Marc Sneyd dispatching from 30 yards out to open the scoring for the afternoon. It would be the hosts however who would score the first try courtesy of Will Pryce, who danced his way through the Salford line to give the Giants the lead after 10 minutes. Pryce would convert his own try, and the Giants had a four-point lead half way through the opening quarter.
The game settled into an attacking rhythm in the second quarter, with both sides testing their respective defences with open, attractive Rugby. The Giants thought they'd got over the line soon after scoring, but were denied by some excellent goal-line defence from the Red Devils. The Giants playing most of the first half with sufficient verve but were unable to convert the attacking thrust into points: Tui Lolohea particularly impressed in the opening stanza with two breaks, one on a kick return that saw the full-back race nearly to the half-way line, and a fifth tackle burst that saw the Tongan International come agonisingly close to scoring the Giants second of the afternoon.
Lolohea would be get his reward in the 35th minute in the form of a lovely assist, kicking in behind for the Giants second try of the afternoon. The Giants number six delivered the ball on a plate for Giants top-try-scorer, Chris McQueen to touch down. Will Pryce then got his second successful kick of the afternoon to give the Giants a ten point lead with a five on the clock in the first half.
The Giants would pull further ahead on the cusp of Half-Time, as Ryan Lannon saw yellow for a high-tackle, Will Pryce dispatched the penalty from left of the posts, and Huddersfield went into the sheds with a 12 point lead.
Huddersfield started the second half well and built early pressure on the Red Devils line, with Leroy Cudjoe pulling down Ryan Brierley to force the opening Goal Line Drop Out of the Second Half after seven minutes. From the resulting set, Innes Senior was able to race down the corner to score Huddersfield's first of the second half. Will Pryce pulled the conversion wide, but the Giants lead still stood at 16-points.
The Giants fumbled the kick off return and were forced to kick from under the sticks, but some impressive physical defence from Chris McQueen and Jermaine McGillvary forced the turnover on the first play of the resulting set. Huddersfield kept the pressure on and were able to force a try saving flick behind the dead-ball line to achieve back to back sets, and on the first play of the resulting set, were able to win a penalty, but Will Pryce was unable to put it away from 20 metres out.
Huddersfield's defensive resolve was impressive throughout the game, and as Salford winger Joe Burgess broke down the near side, Giants half-back Will Pryce was able to push him to touch with the help of Chris McQueen. The Giants had a hold on both sides of the ball in the game, exemplified by some real verve in attack and grit in defence in the face of Salford attempting to put pressure on the Giants line. Both sides were working incredibly hard in defence, with a special mention to Matty English, who went through three match-shirts over the course of the match!
The Claret and Gold would put the game firmly in their hands at the end of the third quarter, with Chris Hill getting over the line from short range to give the Giants a 20 point advantage, soon to become 22 after Will Pryce's fourth score of the day from the boot.
Huddersfield would get on the board again with 15 left on the clock, with Jermaine McGillvary intercepting 35 metres out from the tryline to score a spectacular effort. Will Pryce nailed the conversion again to get the Giants up to 30 points on the afternoon. With six left on the clock, the Giants scored again, with Innes Senior touching down for his second of the game. Will Pryce was unable to land the touchline conversion, however and the Giants held a 32 point lead with only a few minutes remaining, which is how it would remain. Another win for the Giants with a complete performance on both sides of the ball.
