FRIDAY 30-9-22::  Class tells in Premier Greyhound Racing St Leger
Unbeaten coming into the 710m final, having impressed in both her heat and semi-final, she took on the likes of Diane Henry’s Savana Ruinart and Savana Volcano in a cracking final of the Classic.
Sent off the 11/10 favourite, Havana Lover broke well from trap five, but was forced to settle in second in the early stages of the race due to the fine pace shown by Savana Ruinart, Diane Henry’s star keeping up a relentless gallop until the final turn for home. However, rounding the final bend, Havana Lover displayed her brilliance, quickened up powerfully and came round the outside to swoop. She stayed on strongly all the way to the line to record a length victory in a time of 43.10 in a thrilling finish.
Diane Henry had the runner-up and third in the race courtesy of veteran Savana Volcano, who fairly thundered home for second, with long-time leader Savana Ruinart hanging on to finish third.
Elsewhere on the card, Ivanexile was a very impressive winner of the M Lambe Construction Birmingham Cup Final in Memory of Michael Lambe Senior for Matt Dartnall. Drawn in trap six, he showed good early pace to avoid the crowding on the inside and after pacing up well to the first bend, he was always going to be hard to peg back.
The winning time was 28.16 and he returned at 7/4. Bambis Magic and Burnchurch Mick were second and third respectively for Richard Rees.
Perry Barr also remembered well known trainer Pat Rosney who announced his retirement earlier this month. The Pat Rosney Retirement Stakes was run in his honour and victory went to Jaguar Jacob who won in good style in 28.75 with a smooth win. |
