SLICK SAKINA, trained by Patrick Janssens for Keith Allsop, opened her UK account in style at Perry Barr on Thursday. She blasted to a fastest of the Premier Greyhound Racing Oaks first round 28.17sec (going 0.10sec slow) off the back of a blistering 3.41sec sectional as she held Front Pasha by over three lengths in heat 7.
Her kennelmate Fabulous Azzura, the ante-post favourite, was just two spots slower with a 28.18sec victory in heat 5, similarly drawing clear early (3.44sec sectional) to beat Shall We by four lengths.
A Janssens treble was initiated by Global Prima (28.54sec) in the opener.
There was a double for Kevin Hutton through Moments Of Magic (heat 3, 28.40sec) and Coppice Josie (the following heat, 28.64sec) - she held kennelmate Droopys Samantha by threequarters of a length after a messy race.
St Leger third Savana Ruinart powered to a 28.73sec win in heat 9 for Diane Henry, while Kevin Boon was pleased with the 28.37sec run from his Bettys Book when making all in heat 11.
Other winners were Richard Rees’ Whats Up Eva (28.37sec), Longacres Queen (28.68sec for Pat Doocey), Barrie Draper’s exciting Distant Emma (28.35sec), Angie Kibble’s Ballymac Intent (28.66sec in another messy heat where only two finished) and Sweet Pear (28.60sec for Mark Wallis in the finale).
The event continues over the next three Thursdays, with the £20,000 to the winner final on Thursday October 27.
The second round draw will be made at the Greyhound Board on Friday.
