SALFORD RED DEVILS CONFIRM LEADERSHIP RESTRUCTURE AHEAD OF 2025by Harry Siddall | Oct 15, 2024As we begin the countdown to what is sure to be another exciting 2025 Betfred Super League season, Salford Red Devils are delighted to reveal a restructure of our Club’s leadership group.
Earlier this afternoon, it was confirmed Head Coach, Paul Rowley will become the new Director of Rugby from November 1st, 2025.
Other significant off-field changes will help drive the Club forward and build on Salford City Council’s recent acquisition of the Salford Community Stadium.
The first of which sees Managing Director, Paul King become the new Chief Executive Officer with immediate effect.
His focus will switch primarily onto negotiating our position with the stadium and the local authority, on strategic direction, and executing longer-term projects – including the drive for financial sustainability.
On the exciting staff restructure, Paul has said:“We are at a juncture with the club now whereby our on-field consistency enables us to compete at the very highest level.
“If we are to kick and challenge for silverware, we need greater commercial returns and a wider audience to enable us to make the moves for marquee talent that we will need to achieve this.
“We also need the ability to sweat all available stadium assets whilst working strongly in collaboration with the local authority and Sale Sharks.”
The Club is also excited to reveal the appointment of Claire Butters as our new Chief Operating Officer.
Claire has considerable experience in brand, agency and rights-holder business most recently at Sale Sharks, where she held the role of Sales and Marketing Director.
Her focus as COO will be on enhancing our off-field commercial performance across all revenue streams and building the brand, and profile of the club.
On the potential of what Salford can achieve, Claire has said: “It’s a pivotal time for the Club and I believe we’re on the cusp of something special.
“There’s so much opportunity for growth and I know we can establish ourselves as a major force across Rugby League, and an important club in the City of Salford.”
On the appointment of Claire, Paul King has added:“I am delighted to secure Claire’s services.
“She has been known to us for some time, primarily with her lead in greatly enhancing the Shark’s average attendance over the last few years.
“Claire’s immediate focus will be on income generation areas. The role will carry a seat on the club board from 2025.”
Finally, Club Director, Paul Trainor will transition into Director of Foundation and Rugby Partnerships.
In this role, Paul will take over as lead for the Salford Red Devils Foundation with immediate effect.
On what his role aims to achieve, Paul Trainor has explained: “The Foundation has always been the charitable arm of the club and the advent of the club’s rugby strategy.
“However, it will facilitate the Foundation coming under the club’s umbrella, whilst retaining its independent governance structure.
“My initial focus will be developing the Rugby strategy, supporting the educational pathway and increasing the grassroots visibility across Salford and Greater Manchester.”
“I would like to pay tribute to the outgoing Neil Blackburn and thank him for his work in ensuring the Foundation continues to have a significant impact on the local community.”
“Alongside my work with the Foundation, I will be focussing on building and maintaining local, and international partnerships, which enhance the club’s profile, player pathway, educational provision and community programmes.”

PAUL ROWLEY TO BECOME SALFORD RED DEVILS DIRECTOR OF RUGBY IN 2026...by Harry Siddall | Oct 15, 2024We are delighted to reveal Paul Rowley will become the new Director of Rugby of Salford Red Devils in 2026.
Our Head Coach will continue to lead the first-grade squad for the 2025 Betfred Super League campaign before moving into his new role from November 1st, 2025.
A new Head Coach for the 2026 season onwards will be communicated to supporters very soon.
Since becoming part of the Red Devils set-up in 2019, Rowley has contributed immensely to our fantastic progression on the field.
He was part of the coaching staff that reached the Super League Grand Final in his first year and the Challenge Cup Final in 2020.
Rowley was appointed Head Coach ahead of the 2022 season and formed the coaching trio of Kurt Haggerty and Danny Orr, before Krisnan Inu replaced the latter in 2023.
Developing a team that plays an exciting, attacking brand of rugby, Salford has finished inside the playoff places in two of his three seasons in charge.
Consequently, Rowley has been nominated for Super League Coach of the Year on three consecutive occasions.
From 2026 onwards, Rowley will oversee our football department on all levels, including first grade, Women’s, Reserves and our newly awarded Elite Academy.
He will be in control of talent ID, player contracts and the pathways to professional rugby league for our talented young players.
Rowley will also have a seat on the Club Board from 2026 – becoming a key decision-maker in his senior role.
Addressing the supporters, our Head Coach has said: “First and foremost I just want to thank you for the season we’ve had.
“The Grand Final is over now. It’s been a great year; I’ve totally enjoyed it and I’m hoping to see you all next year as well.
“With that in mind, I just want to re-emphasise and reiterate the fact that I’m not going anywhere. I’m certainly committed to being at Salford, first and foremost as a coach in 2025.
“I absolutely love it here. I’m committed to this place, and I want to be here for 2025 and beyond. That’s what I will be doing. I won’t be going anywhere.
“I want to be part of the growth of the club. There’s a lot happening on and off the field and I want to be a part of that. As the Club grows and the business grows, at some point at the end of next year I’ll look towards stepping upstairs into some form of Football Director role.
“So, onto the staff, if you’d like. And that will be a long-term appointment, so to connect all the facets of the business, facilitate the Football Department and maintain some fingerprints on the Football Department as well.
“I’ve put a lot of people in place that have got long-term futures now at the Club, good people – and there’s got to be succession.
“I’ve always said I want to appoint my successor and that’s what I’ve done at every club I’ve been at. This is no different.
“I’m looking forward first and foremost to next year and you guys jumping on board and carrying on that journey with me and the team.
“And then beyond that, like I said before, connecting all the facets of an ever growing group in what is a really exciting future going forward!”
Managing Director of Salford Red Devils, Paul King has said: “We are delighted to secure Paul’s future for the long term.
“In the last 12 months he has turned down approaches from three clubs to remain at Salford, so it was imperative we returned that loyalty and provided him with the opportunity to build a legacy for the club that will last generations.
“I appreciate Paul is renowned as the leading coach of his generation, but I have worked with him now since 2019 and he has a great deal to offer not just in developing our playing and coaching network, but also in wider areas of the sport.”
Everyone at the Club is thrilled to see Paul continue his journey at Salford and look forward to an exciting future.

KURT HAGGERTY TO BECOME SALFORD RED DEVILS HEAD COACH IN 2026
by Harry Siddall | Oct 17, 2024We are delighted to confirm Kurt Haggerty will become the new Head Coach of Salford Red Devils in 2026, signing a three-year contract.
The current Assistant Coach will transition into his new role on November 1st, 2025.
Earlier this week, it was announced current Head Coach, Paul Rowley will be stepping to a Director of Rugby role from 2026 – and his successor has now been identified.
Haggerty has formed one part of a formidable coaching trio since 2022, helping transform the Red Devils into a major force in the Betfred Super League.
Previously, Haggerty has worked closely with Rowley at Leigh as a player and Toronto Wolfpack as a coach.
He also took interim charge as Head Coach of Leigh during the 2021 Betfred Super League season.
It’s well known that their coaching methods are aligned, and Haggerty has always been seen as a natural replacement for the role.
On making the step-up to Head Coach in 2026, Haggerty has told us: “I am extremely proud to be the next Head Coach of Salford Red Devils in 2026.
“When I joined the club back in 2022, there was a clear strategy, vision and legacy being implemented for the future of the club.
“It’s great to see the club moving in the right direction and it’s a very exciting time to be a part of the organisation.
“I would like to thank Paul King and the board of directors for the opportunity to coach the Red Devils.
“I would also like to personally thank Paul Rowley for being a continued support network and mentor through this journey, as well as other coaches I have worked alongside to get to this point today.
“And finally, thank you to my family for their unwavering support.”
Chief Executive Officer of Salford Red Devils, Paul King has also said: “It is a time of real positivity for our Club and securing a succession plan for 2026 is another step in the right direction.
“Kurt has already showcased his excellent coaching acumen alongside Paul and Krisnan, but I’m excited to see his abilities flourish as Head Coach.
“He is one of the brightest young coaches in the game and I am looking forward to continuing our brilliant working relationship next season, and into his new role ahead of 2026.”
