Thanks for your good wishes and congratulations guys - I hope some of you collected off him Chester, I think that in the confusion of the hand timing the RO gave out 29.38 instead of 28.38. Allowing 10 spots a hurdle that gives Meaty the equivalent of a GD rating of 155 David - I think you will find that the 29.38 on the GBGB site is correct although I am very surprised by the Normal going call given the times recorded generally. I have checked the video from which I can time the race within 10 spots and it wasn't a sub 29.00 run. If it was a 28.38 over Hurdles then we would have a new Derby favourite - it would mean a going adjusted length slower than Eske and five Hurdles to boot!!! Make sure the bookmakers don't pay you a grand short A very very special night for you of which a little was shared by many of us.

I'm no Chester, but I must admit to being very surprised by the going allowances given the times recorded. Ballymac Eske's run looked superb visually, whilst Jolly Bullseye was also impressive.Westmead Meteor's run was superb and for such an inexperienced novice he looks like being the dog they will have to beat in all the hurdling competitions. Many congratulations David, you must be exultant. Can you give us an insight into how you acquired the dog and the plans you have for him for the rest of the season? Good luck.

Congratulations David! I know how much winning these hurdles competitions means to you . It was nice to have Sky back showing the dogs but have to say I thought the standard of presentation has fallen significantly. Jonathon Hobbs looked positively embarrassed at times with the new front man who looked out of his depth, having a camera placed almost alongside the traps was stupid and detracted from the presentation of the race, no winning distances shown and on occasions no times when the result was shown. They surely can do a lot better than this.

Agreed Precious.I think the lack of HD was the starkest contrast. Also it's a little pedantic but spelling trainers names incorrectly (Bellingham instead of Billingham)and other errors is simply sloppy. However, some coverage is better than the alternative.

Can you give us an insight into how you acquired the dog and the plans you have for him for the rest of the season? Good luck. I'd known Ricky had some dogs in from Bob Morton to race and move on, and I'd noticed Meteor winning A1s, particularly since he'd won an inter-track on the 13th December in 28.81 when the RO had put one of my hurdlers in another inter-track race that night(Airforce Spirit, who won by half the track in 28.56 and nearly got locked up!) Anyway I got a call from Ricky a couple of days later who said Jamie had put Meteor in the hurdle paddock by mistake and he'd seemed to be a natural, and so he'd put him up the hurdles and he was as quick as Mo Realta Frank (my best hurdler) and I had to buy him - I remember Rick saying "he'll be your Springbok dog - I reckon I can get him ready in time". I said "no thanks Rick, I've too many dogs at moment and could do with moving a couple on, I'm sort of money, it's nearly Christmas and the way Sky, the GRA and Hills are going on I've probably already wasted a fortune on dogs for a competition that won't happen anyway! Ricky said "never mind all that old malarky - send me a bank transfer this afternoon - you're having the dog and that's that - I'll win the bleedin Springbok with him!" The rest, as they say, is history... and fairly typical of the way I spend months studying dogs , identifying hurdle potential, ruthlessly tracking down owners and forcing them to sell me their dogs!!!!!
