Shawfield: stars on RPGTV Saturday with three Scottish Derby heats Eske faces heat clash with kennelmate Eden BALLYMAC ESKE and Eden Star will go head-to-head in the first heat of the Ladbrokes Scottish Derby over 480m at Shawfield on Saturday after Barrie Draper’s recent ill-fortune with trap draws continued.
The Sheffield handler saw all three of his Swindon Arc entries last week draw the same heat but he was phlegmatic on hearing the latest news. “Nothing you can go about it, we’ve just got to get on with it,” he said.
“You’d probably expect Eden Star to lead Ballymac Eske by the bend and hopefully they can go round clean and both get the chance to do their running.”
The first two from each heat qualify for the ÂŁ10,000 final on Saturday, May 4. Both meetings are live on Racing Post Greyhound TV.
Ladbrokes Scottish Derby – heat one: 1 Eden Star, 2 Ballymac Eske, 3 Teejays Bluehawk, 4 Calzaghe Jack, 5 Greenwell Thor (m), 6 Rokka Lucy (w).

Heat three: 1 Liosgarbh Und (m), 2 Jaytee Hellcat (m), 3 Greenwell Mentor (w), 4 Tarbrook Tornado (w), 5 Trickys On Fire (w), 6 Black Jedamac (w).

Eske odds-on to make winning Scottish start
BALLYMAC ESKE has been installed as 1-2 favourite by the sponsor to open his Scottish Derby campaign with victory in the opening heat of the Category One event over Shawfield’s 480m on Saturday.
Barrie Draper’s charge is drawn on the outside of kennelmate Eden Star, rated the main danger at 5-2, while Paul Young’s Teejays Bluehawk is the other rival in single figures with an 8-1 quote.
Newcastle-trained runners dominate in the second heat, with Harry Williams’s Mags Gamble evens favourite ahead of Craig Dawson’s Paradise Martini (2-1), while Young’s Jaytee Hellcat and Fraser Black’s Irish raider Tarbrook Tornado share 11-8 joint-favouritism for the third.
The full Shawfield meeting, which also features heats of 500m and 670m competitions, is live on Racing Post Greyhound TV tomorrow evening, as is the gala final card a week later.

Ballymac Eske and trainer Barrie Draper will be at Shawfield tonight Awesome Eske ready to star in Scottish DerbyBALLYMAC ESKE’S superstar presence has done wonders for the 2013 Ladbrokes Scottish Derby and Barrie Draper’s dog can pass a sterner test than the morning odds about him might suggest lies in wait with Âvictory in heat one of the ÂŁ10,000 Âcompetition over 480m at ÂShawfield tonight (8.34, live on Racing Post Greyhound TV).
He has been seen competitively just once this year when Ârunning away with the Racing Post ÂJuvenile in scintillating fashion at Wimbledon last month, but has been kept ticking over in trials and has looked good in two workouts here.
Draper was not happy with track conditions for the first of them, but the look round clearly benefitted Ballymac Eske as he improved markedly the following the week, most stikingly in terms of sectional. And therEin lies the rub as he looks set to out-trap Âkennelmate Eden Star on his immediate inside but will he then be able to hold his predecessor as ÂJuvenile champion to the bend?
It is doubtful given the superb early pace that Eden Star Âpossesses so the Sheffield handler will just be hoping there is no Âcoming together at or near the bend – if both get round Ârelatively unscathed then ÂBallymac Eske should prove far too strong when it matters.
Newcastle duo Mags Gamble and Paradise Martini rightly dominate the market for heat two at 8.50 with Paradise ÂMartini preferred on price grounds as much as anything else.

Eske given real race by gallant Teejays Bluehawk
BALLYMAC ESKE took a firm step towards landing next Saturday’s Ladbrokes Scottish Derby final when flying out in the opening heat of the 480m Classic at Shawfield Saturday night.
But Barrie Draper’s dog needed the start as Paul Young’s Teejays Bluehawk got a lovely run on the rail after Eden Star, who missed the break before going up fast, moved middle at the bend.
Teejays Bluehawk turned it into a real race on down the back and although Ballymac Eske was always ahead, there is no question of a simple coronation ahead next weekend after winning by threequarters of a length in 28.78sec
Young said of Teejays Bluehawk: “That’s the best race he’s run, we’re certainly looking forward to the final.”
Ladbrokes make Ballymac Eske a 1-2 chance to take the ÂŁ10,000 prize on Saturday after Barrie Draper's star drew trap one in the final.
Bookmakers got a result in the second heat when 12-1 local Greenwell Lark, trained by Pat Flaherty, made all. Paradise Martini was heavily gambled both during the day and at the track (2-1 into evens), but missed the break. He showed good early before clipping Mags Gamble from behind, and Mags Gamble did well to hold his balance amid general shuffling, emerging a clear second down the back.
Greenwell Lark came home a length and three quarters to the good in 28.90sec
It was almost a Flaherty double when Greenwell Mentor edged ahead at the first bend in the third heat, then when the field bunched up behind at the third, he seemed to have done enough.
But Fraser Black’s Irish raider Tarbrook Tornado, Jonathan Kay’s Pricewise 12-1 Pricewise ante-post poke and backed at the track from 6-4 into evens, put up a tremendous effort. Baulked at both the first and third, he turned on the overdrive off the last bend and got up by a head in 29.14sec.
Draw for Saturday’s £10,000 to the winner final, live on RPGTV (with betting from Ladbrokes):
1 Ballymac Eske (1-2) 2 Teejays Bluehawk (5-1) 3 Mags Gamble (m) (6-1) 4 Greenwell Mentor (w)(16-1) 5 Tarbrook Tornado (w) (7-1) 6 Greenwell Lark (w) (14-1)
Earlier Samar Rozy landed a gamble, 6-1 into 7-2 for Adrian McPherson in heat two of the RPGTV Stayers over 670m.
In a bunched race, Clonmoyle Bob took them along early with favourite Mill Nastasi unable to get a run from trap four. Samar Rosy, after being well placed, got shuffled back to fifth down the back before coming again and getting up by a short-head (42.32sec) in a thrilling finish from Clonmoyle Bob and a further neck to Titan Phantom.
Odds-on Greenisle Giant took the opening stayers heat for Pat Rosney in 41.85sec, leading off at the last bend after Moorfoot Maggie had shown good early to lead at the first.
Draw:
1 Clonmoyle Bob 2 Romeo Alliance 3 Greenisle Giant 4 Samar Rozy (m) 5 Titan Phantom (m) 6 Moorfoot Maggie (w)
500 final:
1 Fire Height Spec 2 Ballycannon Hope 3 Ballylaw Dooman 4 Croom Paddy (w) 5 Fivestar Bomber (w) 6 Athlacca Major (w)
*Croom Paddy, after a dead-heat for third, won a toin coss over Calzaghe Naomi to qualify.
